Sleeplessness advice?

Hi!

These days my lungs gone on strike and just not behaving. Trying to sleep a little but cannot sleep at all not even half an hour so look like a zombie but i have university and we get a certain percentage of our marks just for turning up. But havent had sleep for maybe 2/3 days now any ideas? Thanks in advance

Are you sleeping propped up by a few pillows as this Helps. Also take your reliever just before you go to bed. Also it might seem silly but make sure you are relaxed when going bed - Easier said than done I know. But do whatever relaxes you for ex I would make watch a film and have a bath

Make sure you keep an eye on your asthma. Sounds like you may need to see your GP to make sure you're not at risk of having an attack

Thanks for ur advice but i do all of that and i m at huge risk of an attack and theres just nothing gp can do about it on absolute max meds including pred 40mg for like a month now ?. I sleep on lots of pillows have lots of salbutamol before bed as was told by resp nurses and very much relaxed with my audio books but still just cannot sleep i guess mostly due to my constant wheezing and breathlessness but theres just nothing to help those and my sore chest from too much coughing up yucky stuff?. If you have any more ideas its more than welcome??.

I think some off the meds you are on keep you awake. I know when i am up to 40mg of pred I can never sleep. Also when when in hospital on really high dose of steriods. I don't get any sleep. Have you done any physio to clear the muscas. My asthma nurse recommends this as it clears your chest. Sorry apart from lots of pillows can't think of anything eles. Hope you get some sleep soon.

Yep done trying to clear my chest and also usually can sleep quite well (or used to be able to ) on 40 mg pred had that much in july ish time as well for like a month.

What time are you taking pred.? When I take it (am only ever on a short course) I wake up at 6 am and eat a banana and take it. When I first took pred I didn't know about any of the side affects and my boyfriend at the time kept telling me I wasn't relaxing enough as I was awake for a few hours in middle of night every night. It wasn't until we next saw doc that we realised it was the pred causing this

When I had pred, specialist said to take it in the morning, as it would keep me wide awake if I took it later on in the day. Sue

Hi Yas, sounds like the pred is the main reason for the sleeplessness. in terms of the reverse psychology of it all, I think I would resign myself to lack of sleep (but only for a while) and yet still go to bed, for the rest, perhaps do some university reading or something, with some soothing meditative music, so that you are not lying there getting more frustrated and sleepless because you are sleepless. The university reading may anyway send you to sleep eventually. Sleep studies show that many of us are getting more sleep than we think we are getting, so that is in some ways reassuring. If you can get to your classes so that you can be registered as present, that may help your concern and anxiety about that, and if its a nice dimly lit lecture room, you can have a snooze at the back. Hi, I also have asthma. Very often I can't sleep at night,it looks like hell. My doctor says the dust - is one of the biggest reasons of this. Cotton duvets store a lot of dust but silk duvets dont. I want to buy one on jasminesilk you may try too...

Sorry you're having a bad time, Yas. I think it has happened to most of us at some point and as you're already doing the right things there's not a lot you can do except try not to get bent out of shape about it. Prop yourself up on your pillows as comfortably as possible and put radio 4 on - with a little luck you'll either find something that interests you or it will bore you to sleep!
