Seretide 125 for a 4 year old?

my son who is nearly 4 has pretty bad asthma and has been on seretide 50 for about 12 months (2 puffs twice a day)

He has now been changed by the consultant to seretide 125 two puffs twice a day which seems a very high dose. Anyone else have experience of a young child on such a dose?

Both my daughters have asthma fairly badly.

My yougest who is 5 on seretide 50 2 puffs bd plus other drugs but my eldest had been on seretide 125 since being fairly young and was on 2 puffs bd since she was about 3 years (she is now 12 and just been put on 250 accuhaler )

Although the drug is not licensed above 100micrograms bd and a GP certainly would prescribe this dose, as your son is under a hospital consultant they do prescribed slightly higher doses when necessary.

My daughter has had no serious side effects apart from being slightly shorter than her peers and at the end of the day if you son needs this dose to be well and have his asthma under control, its best to be at this dose than at a lower one but being continuously admitted with asthma attacks.

My son has been on seretide 125 in addition to other meds since he was 2.5years old. The consultant has just stepped him down from 2 puffs twice a day to 1 puff twice a day as he feels he is stable, strange considering his previous admission was only about 4 weeks before that. I'm going with it for now.

What reason did the consultant give for changing his meds? Was it because he was having a lot of attacks and admissions still?

Hi there, my son was 4 on the same dose and I felt wobbly too, but it was the best thing we ever did. It really knocked any breakthrough symptoms on the head and his physical development came on leaps and bounds from the very first dose. He's seven now and still on the same dose - we've never had any problems with side effects but I do remember feeling very nervous about adrenal suppression and looking back I think it was probably because asthma is so flippin anxiety producing that I was probably just stressed becaus eif asthma not being controlled rather than the dosing.

My son who is 3 is currently on seretide 50, monteluckast 4mg and laratindine . His consultant is considering changing his to 125 after a few hospital admissions recently. We see her again in December. He is a bigger than average little boy.
