So fed up I could cry

Here I am on my third week of having a chest infection which is really upsetting my asthma, there's only so much coughing, wheezing, tight chest and breathlessness and sleepless nights you can take.

I'm on maximum of all my medication and still my peak flow is ranging from 150 - 70 and my oxygen sats ranging 92 - 88.

It doesn't matter what I try my reliever and nebuliser are helping for about 2 maybe 3 hours then I'm needing more reliever and/or nebs. I am so fed up that I could cry.

(((Hugs))) Its rotten. It sucks. I truly wish things were different for a lot of us here. Me included: I'm not anywhere as bad as you are now, but I HATE living from neb to neb.

Maybe it is time to ask for help? Sometimes, there really is only so much we can do at home. I don't need to tell you that when ventolin isn't working as it usually does for you, its time to think of other options (like the one your GP wants).

Three weeks is a long time to be managing a chest infection, sounds like whatever antibiotics you have had aren't cutting the mustard... What are they doing to sort your infection? Won't they give you IV antibiotics? Hopefully once infection is resolved, asthma will improve. You must feel horrid :(

Oh sweetheart, I really understand. Its awful when you feel so dreadful and nothing seems to make you feel any better. I agree that it sounds like you need to be in hospital. And yes I totally understand you wanting to avoid it, but youve been ill a long time now and riding it out at home clearly isnt working at the moment. Fighting an infection takes a lot of energy and if youre not sleeping then youre likely to be in a downward spiral. Please seek help, we all want you better soon xx

Thanks for you replies. I phoned my GP surgery for advice and one of the Doctor's phoned me back he said he wanted to see me urgently. After doing all the usual checks and confirmed that I do still have a very nasty chest infection in the lower part of both lungs he then prescribed Doxycycline antibiotics and told me to let him or my GP know if I am not feeling any better by the end of this week. I have already been told that the next stage is to admit me to hospital.

Glad to hear you've been seen asthmagirl, fingers crossed the antibiotics work. Be sure to have some food with them, doxy is notorious for going down and coming straight back up otherwise!

I Know how you feel Pillows under your mattress so the flem doesn't settle on your chest . also hot water spoon of honey and slice of real lemon just before bed .

works a treat if you dont like the taste of honey get acaicia honey

Bad time for asthmatics I think. I keep getting infections and have been tipped over the edge again. Stinking infection. Think it's not going and then the antibs finish!! Ugh !!

Hugs, and keep safe!
