Co-codamol giving this to help with costochondritis

I was prescribed co-codamol as i have costochondritis! Firstly gp did not care that this was affecting my asthma also makeing me restless as i cant sleep that well took in my peak flow diray as i thort he mite look at that and see i was not with in my normal peak flow range.

Got home read the co-codamol pack o gess what do not take if you have asthma so i called AUK they was very good dont take them go back to gp went to gp he said take them see how you feel if you feel bad come back or got to a and e all ready in pain and haveing asthma affects on me !!

i asked a local chemict she said take one pill every 6 hours if you feel bad or have a attack get help she said he sould have said to me to do this not take them see how you feel!

in the night loads of wezzing and short ness of breath so stoped takeing them

going back to see another gp today ( wednesday ) as i said to them i do not want to see the over gp as i have lost my trust in them!!

Is it me or do local gps dont care they just give out pills with out even thinking !!!

Some asthmatics are OK with co-codamol, I can take it but need to be careful.

I am more concerned about it's constipating effects...

Perhaps try in the day, when you are not out and driving / cycling / on pogo stick or whatever.

And see if it had any effects on your asthma.

I am severe asthmatic and take it mainly at night...

Interactions and side effects from lots of meds is a huge minefield and it can be difficult for a GP to know everything.... sometimes it will be flagged up on a computer.

Pharmacists are much better at identifying potential problems but often it is best if you ask....

I always do this and even if it means a queue behind you, better to ask.

Also Pat info leaftets can scare the pants off you before you have even started to take the meds.

Most moderate to severe side effects are rare or very rare.

I have just picked up a new tablet and one of the side effects is 'heart attack' ............. I am not going to worry as I know lots of people take it and if it was that common the med would be withdrawn.

GPs do generally care, but if you think about it, they are general doctors and deal with everything medical and otherwise. that comes their way, unlike specialists who will generally know....

PS just eat more prunes or take some senna if they constipate...

I also suffer from costochondritis and was advised to just take paracetamol as I am a severe, brittle, complex asthma patient.

It didn't help at all so was advised to take co-codamol with caution in extremely low dose and if any reaction then to stop it and go to a and e. I luckily didn't have any reaction but find it didn't help with the pain at all.

Was then advised to try ibuprofen (even though as an asthmatic patient your not suppose to take anti-inflammtories, but luckily again I seem to be ok on them) but again they didn't help.

Finally after not being able to tolerate the pain much longer went & saw the pharmacist to talk to them as they have a lot more knowledge about medication then the doctors do and was advised to take diclofenac sodium 50mg which has worked brillantly.

I hope this helps but I also find that when my costochondritis flares up its an indication that my asthma is going to get worse, so its like a pre-warning to me....

hey i changed drs and bean to hos with it still in lot of pain also now got a virl infection so not gd as this has set of my asthma big time o well can only get beter with time
