First of all, why are you hoping to come off steroids - you mean inhalers? Steroid inhalers are quite safe and are long term preventers which help prevent asthma attacks.

In regards to trying for a baby, please speak to your GP as we cannot answer specific medical questions of such nature here. They are the best person to discuss this with. Asthma inhalers are very safe in pregnancy as are most tablets. It is more risky to have uncontrolled asthma. Asthma generally follows a rule of thirds in pregnancy - 1/3 finds their asthma is better; 1/3 stays much the same; and 1/3 find that it gets worse - there's a 2/3 chance that it'll get better or stay the same! There are plenty of previous posts with peoples various experiences, you just need to do a quick search.

""Can my asthma medicine harm my baby?

No. In general, the medicines used to treat asthma are safe in pregnancy. This includes reliever inhalers, preventer inhalers, long acting relievers, theophyllines and steroid tablets. There are more risks to both you and your baby if you do not take your medicines and your asthma becomes uncontrolled. There is one group of asthma medicines which would not normally be started during pregnancy called leukotriene receptor antagonists (Montelukast or Zafirlukast). However if you were taking Montelukast/Zafirlukast before you became pregnant, and it is working well for your asthma, you will probably be advised by your GP to continue taking it.
