New to asthma and the boards and would like to know, is anyone else rattling?!

Hello! I just thought I'd introduce myself and say hi - I've been lurking for a bit as a guest and this seems like a lovely community.

I was diagnosed with asthma about a year ago (after many years of worsening chest infections and then a cough that wouldn't go away and was so severe I broke a rib) - I'm 36, non-smoker, regular exerciser and try to eat well. My first GP missed it totally, but my new GP has been brilliant, thankfully. I'm a musician based in Yorkshire and I like aikido, Taiko drumming, reading and eating chocolate in my spare time :)

Anyway, the thing I find really tough about all this is less the diagnosis - I'm just so relieved to know what is wrong after years of ""oh it's just GERD"" or ""you must have a bit of a cold"" or ""have you considered hayfever"" - and more the sheer volume of drug interactions I now have to be aware of! Is it just me that feels like I'm rattling from all the pills and potions? Especially at the moment - the increased pollen count means I'm on antihistamines and decongestants as well as Seretide, Ventalin and other fun things. (I also have familial hypercholesterolaemia so take a statin). Honestly, if I jump up and down I rattle...

Hello Kess,

Welcome to the forum. I am sure you will find a lot of useful information here.

HI Kess and welcome!

Have you seen the chocolate thread over in off-topic? We're debating the merits of chocolate as an asthma cure - I'm sure it wouldn't have too many interactions lol ;) As you can see from my signature, I'm a strong supporter of this treatment.

I know what you mean about all the drugs - I'm not on as many but atm I'm on my asthma ones (2 relievers plus montelukast and Symbicort), another one I've been on my whole life plus antibiotics for an infection, then because I'm on the antibiotics I bought some probiotic capsules to avoid an upset stomach (I don't know if they're working - stomach is not upset but I do have a nasty stomachache). So I do rather feel like I'm rattling atm yes! While my mother who is in her 60s is on I think one medication (a pretty interaction and side-effect free one) and does energetic hour-long Zumba classes - not that I grudge her that at all and hope she stays that way for a long time.

Hi kess and welcome! :-)

Yes, I definitely rattle when I walk! Lol

Its timimg everything that I find the most awkward but if it controls my asthma i ts worth it.

I hope you find the forum as useful and friendly as I have.
