Doctors!! - and a small rant

Been to see GP today as posted on here the other day that i had a chest infection what a waste of time, he said chest was pretty clear even though i can hear my chest rattling at times especially at night. Gave me antibiotics but don't take them unless i get much worse, oh and don't bother taking the steroids - pred unless my peak flow drops to 300 again. Never mind that i am now just over the 350-370 mark which is still quite low for me. Also got a chesty cough and still feeling not well at times.

i really give up on doctors so now where do i go now talk about confusing the issue. I would appreciate any advise or has anyone had similar response from gp and what did you do. I have got to be fit for work next week.

thanks

Grrrrrrrrr!!!!!

Don't you just hate it when they DON'T LISTEN!!!

I hqve had this a couple of times and at times I've held off taking the antibiotics and pred cos I've felt bqd but manageable, at other times I've taken them straight away as I've felt that my symptoms were getting out of control and I wanted to hit it hard.

Hi Lola

This happened to me a couple of weeks ago, I went to my doctor with a bad chesty cough, short of breath etc and the doctor told me my chest was clear and didn't give me anything even though I have a letter from my respiratory physio stating that I am to have a course of antibiotics to keep at home, she just asked me do a phlegm sample but sent it off as non urgent so will probably take ages to come back. she also told me not to start my pred as my chest was clear, well 2 weeks later I still have a bad cough and still feeling crappy so might go to the walk in center on saturday.

hope you feel better soon

Uurgg, how frustrating. Don't know what to suggest other than seeing a different GP and stressing your nighttime struggles. Sorry I can't help. Lou x

Go back to GP or asthma clinic. I was in the same situation before Christmas chest clear come and back and see me on Friday if you don't feel better....but things took a turn for the worst on Thursday and I has to ring an ambulance. High dose steriods and antibiotics for 2 weeks. More steriods again February12 and April12. Don't be fobbed off.

yeah I'd agree, go back but see someone different! Or at least ring the asthma nurses on here as they're lovely and should be able to tell you what to do - though it may be 'go back to the GP'.

Good luck - I do hate it when they fob you off like this.
