Is Ventolin to blame?

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced these symptoms.

I find that when I take a lot of my ventolin I get really cold extremities and a slightly bluish tinge to my fingertips and toes. Does anyone else get this?

Do you think it could be the Ventolin to blame?

I can completely sympathise, i get this too but have managed to narrow it down in my case to only when i use ventolin in the winter months. Sorry i cant offer more advice but wanted you to know you are not alone.

That's interesting, I've been keeping a diary of symptoms etc to show my consultant at Southampton next time I go - maybe I ought to mention this to him in case he needs to do more tests.....I wasn't sure

I would be concerned that those symptoms could be due to lower blood oxygen levels (which could occur if asthma is out of control and hence needing larger quantities of Ventolin).

It could also be to do with the cold - we're getting plenty of that at the moment!

I would def. mention this to your GP / cons next time you see them.

i have raynaud's syndrome which is where my fingers (though other people get it in toes / nose / ears - the extremities) go very cold, very white and numb. As they warm up they get painful / pins & needles and sometimes go purple before going back to the correct nice pink colour.

My friend (who is not medically qualified but might as well be with the amount of medical knowledge she has) says that asthma & raynaud's are known to be related. I had never made the connection but i guess it's possible, i often get both together but mainly cos i'm stupid & go running all year round - so in the cold the asthma is worse and obviously the raynaud's is worse too.

Maybe you have a mild case of raynaud's as well as your asthma - possibly something to ask your dr about

I have raynaud's syndrome and my hands and feet get really cold and it really painful when they start to warm up, it is like they have been dipped in boiling hot water.

I have found it to be worse since my asthma has been worse and I had to increase my ventolin.

was going to say that sounds like Raynauds like Sparkyrachel says above. Could well be induced by the salbutamol inhalers, people can get side effects with any meds. If its appropriate try keeping a diary correlating when it happens and note down when you take inhalers and see if there is a relationship there. Maybe chat to your doctor about your concerns - secondary raynauds are caused by something else. There may be other meds for you too good luck
