Sore ribs

I am just recovering from an acute asthma attack which has been treated this evening by the man and woman in green fortunately they were able to help me at home instead of taking me to hospital.

I currently have a nasty chest infection as well which is being treated by antibiotics.

I have extremely sore ribs and wondered if anyone else suffers with sore ribs after an asthma attack.

My ribs do allso and between shoulders xxx

Always after an exacerbation - and my sternum too. And quite often pull muscles in my abdomen and have done in my neck from dragging for air.

Not fun..........tonight it's my neck, ribs and sternum with the abdomen occasionally jumping in!

Take care

oh yes! i can definitely sympathise :(

i even try shallow breathing to make it less painful, which i know i shouldnt do as it puts me at risk of chest infection so then i am back at square one....

but i find regular fluids and plently of regular pain relief helpful cos i get sore ribs, back and shoulders, and more recently abdo??

yep. i find hugging a pillow helps esp when i need to cough

I do. I find that a hot water bottle can help to ease the pain.

Yep, i get the same kind

of problem after attack. I

also get a lot. of pain

down both sides. I think its because the coughing & struggling to breath may cause some inflamation.

Hope you feel better soon

I feel your pain asthmagirl. I have damaged inter costal cartillages coughing several times and the pain is exactly the same as a broken rib. Use a rolled up towel and hold it against you if and when you need to cough or get up from lying. Try not to breathe too shallow as it will slow your recovery from infection. Try to get some good pain relief on board and stay on top of it. Your lungs will possibly be better far quicker than your rib pain. Get well soon.

Yes, I get sore ribs too, and also very sore sternum. Gentle massage of the area is a good pain reliever for me.

Hope you feel better soon.

im the same . my ribs always hurt when im sick or had an asthma atack and after chocking fits to , for me hugging a hot watter bottle helps.

Same here, I also find a hot water bottle or a heat pack helps ease it, even if only slightly and short term

Yes this is a side affect of severe asthma - massage intercostal muscles ( in between ribs ) with aspercreme or a anti inflammatory cream lay in one side and then put an ice pack under ribs and hold on to 2nd ice pack with inner arm on other ribs - 20 min

Also get a professional intercoastal massage youtu.be/6cgqPkYBCcc
