For part of my A level coursework I am focusing on asthma and I am not sure how to explain how you get asthma. Do you have any suggestions and can anyone answer this question?

How do you get asthma?
hey
there is a section under ""all about asthma - asthma at work"" which talks about occupational asthma and how you can get it...im not 100% about how youngsters get it...i was 'born' with asthma, and my mum smoked all the way through her pregnancy, so docs etc seem to think that it caused my ariways to be under developed through the nicotine effects.
sorry its not much help!!

Hi Zoe
It wasn't difficult. I just woke up one day and there it was
Seriously, though, and speaking only for myself, I don't feel that I 'got' asthma, rather that asthma 'got' me! It inflicted itself on me when I was in my 30s without any apparent reason.
I would suggest that your best bet is to look at the 'all about asthma' section where I'm sure you'll find all sorts of helpful information, and there might be many people on the forum who can identify something that triggered their asthma.
Good luck with it.
Hi Zoe,
What subject is it for? Just wondering what the focus is (social, medical etc).
Personally I think I got asthma age 7 because I had a strong family history of it - it's quite often hereditary. When it came back age 23 it was because I'd managed to get swine flu (asthma after a viral infection is also not uncommon). As the others have said have a look around the site as there should be some helpful information.
