i feel like im going mental. i stupidly came off all my inhalers last year, with the agreement of my doctor, cause it was felt that my asthma was mild if not non exsistant. but in the past few months ive had a couple of chest infections. i cant seem to get to grips with having asthma, i was diagnosed at in 1999 at the age of 20. i dont know what my triggers are. its getting me down. ive had to take a week off of work to rest because of this most recent episode of chest infection. i feel like im letting people down, and im worried what people think of me at work. im supposed to be the young, fit and healthy person. i have made an appointment to see the asthma nurse but thats not for a couple of weeks.any advice, including telling me to shut up lol, would be of use.

Hey,
Sounds to me like you need to go and see your GP asap and deffinetly not wait for a couple of weeks! Uncontrolled asthma can be nasty, and its probs best to hear what the doc has to say, as noone on here can see you, or judge how you are.
Best of luck!
Ally
Hi,
It's great that you've made an appointment to see your asthma nurse. And it's really not stupid of you to stop your inhalers since you mentioned that your doctor agreed for you to do it!!
I used to think like you, about how ppl think I'm young so I'm suppose to be healthy. But I realized that just made me feel worse cos' I just started hating my asthma more. I guess you have to learn to understand asthma and then it wouldn't seem that much of a burden anymore (even if you do spend more time than you would like dealing with it). Remember that no matter what, your health is the most impt! (:
Most asthmatics have allergic asthma. If you're having problems identifying your triggers, it would be good to bring up the subject of allergy testing with your asthma nurse or con. That way you'll be able to avoid them better! Of course, most of the time we can't avoid our allergens and that's where medications such as Singulair come into play. I've heard that it's pretty much a miracle drug, but unfortunately it didn't work for me and hence I stopped using it.
Don't let asthma rule your life and define who you are. Hope you feel better soon! (:

Oh and I agree with Ally that you really should try to bring forward your appt or see your GP asap. (:
