I was just wondering how many people have medical alert bracelets? I'm just wondering how important it might be to get one. I've had severe asthma since I was about 7 and most of the time it's under control however occasionally I do have asthma attacks...

i've got a lovely one from icegems.co.uk. it has ""asthmatic"" on the front and my name, dob, drug allergies and emergency contact number on the back.
very discrete - but the paramedics know exactly what they're looking for. my aunty is a paramedic and says they're trained to look at neck and left wrist for them. it makes my workmates so much more confident too, as they know if i ""go out"" as they put it, the paramedics can find the info straightaway. similarly if i'm out alone etc.
makes me feel confident and safer, which is always a good thing.
I wear an sos talisman...they're good because you can keep changing the details on them as and when your meds change. I eventually decided to get one after I realised I was never given or carried a steroid card.

I have had Medic-Alerts for years now.
Though mine is on my right wrist. Anyone doing an assessment of a casualty should look at both wrists! I do in my St John amb role.
I did have SOS talismans but meds changed so much at one stage it was a faf, plus it was way too fiddly and the clip often lost or the cap rolled round the ambulance.....
Medic Alert will keep constant updates as long as you tell them, email is good for that. It is more confidential too, just has the basics on like condition, allergies etc, membership no & contact so all y our personal details such as name & DOB are kept secure by medic alert, though these are on the wallet card which can be kept safe etc.
Medic alert is recgnised and supported world wide, and they have translators too for if you are unwell abroad.
I have added a bagpuss to my chain one but my everyday one is a sports band, though I am having it re done on a new less battered band... got a bit tatty!
I am a naughty girl got both a necklet and chain bracelet by medical alert and wear neither, just find they get in the way or irritate my eczema. Have even had to change my watch to a sports strap so any suggestions please would be great.
I almost signed up to medicalert but couldn't afford to pay for both the membership and the id bracelet/necklace as I don't qualify for the discounted/free membership and I am allergic to nickel so can't have the standard stainless steel. In the end I opted to buy a sterling silver necklace elsewhere with the caduceus symbol on the front and my medical conditions on the back. I also keep all my medical details and emergency contacts in my wallet and have an app on my iphone with the same information. Not ideal but better than nothing.

If you could not afford the medicalert then they so sponser people, as i cant afford the membership and bracelt and i am getting it free as along as i send them proof of benefits
@Sinead As I said in my previous post I wouldn't qualify for them to sponsor me. I'm not on any benefits. My fiancé earns a good wage, there's just not a lot of it going spare after we've paid the mortgage, bills and paid off some of the wedding stuff. I
what do people put on the medical alert bracelets? I have severe asthma attacks and i have an old medic alert, but my dad has just agreed to get me a new one. it helps when i cant talk as well as with people who i don't know. I have no known allergies, should i put this or will they assume if none are mentioned that i have none. should i mention that i take theophylinne (i know if levels get too high it can be nasty - and i thought it might show the degree of my asthma) other than that i was going to put my name, DOB and ICE! does that sound sensible, i dont want to have to get another as they are quite expensive so i need to get this one right!
Im also a member of Medic Alert UK. Although Im not allergic to nickel, the one I have is a sports strap, so they do have appropriate ones for people with allergies. I have numerous health conditions which could be a huge issue if I had an accident, never mind my asthma. When you sign up you can chat to one of their nurse advisors to agree the most appropriate things to go on the actual back of the emblem. The credit card sized wallet card also lists additional information (mine is jam packed LOL) and more info is held by medic alert which appropriate medical personnel can access.
Medic Alert also train emergency personnel and are recognised by the NHS and emergency services. They can also be accessed worldwide.

I've been considering getting an medical id. Though my parents don't think I should as I haven't had any major attack since being diagnosed. But I'm on Clenil & reliever inhalers, as its only mild, though I do carry an Asthma medical card on me. Plus I don't always like wearing jewellery braclets especially, necklaces/pendants my young nieces & nephew would pull at.

I have one for years, and I found it on reviewsbee.com , they offer for every product reviews, scores etc, I think that they have now 10 top medical products, check them, it can be useful to you.
