well done AUK! pharmacist advice leaflet.

A month ago had a nasty experience at a boots store (moaned on the medical area) and i recently complained and got my letter apology. however on route to an emergency clinic i spotted a wall full of AUK literature including the peakflow diary which is great. But what did put a smile on my face (as my head was pounding from my rhinitis) was a leaflet called 'asthma and advice from your pharmacist' that i picked up from the smallest possible chemist and it was the only one open at the weekend in the area (the emergency clinic isnt in the best of locations).

I just wanted to know has this leaflet been distributed to all chemists and pharmacy's? Is there any plan to as i think this would eliminate a lot of the over the top 'helpfully wrong information' that pharmacists can give out not all of them do but some can over step the mark with the questioning. I think the leaflet is good because it sort of draws a line into what they should be doing,

hi Confused,

I was interested in your comments. I ask AUK for various leaflets and when I'm out & about I distribute them to appropriate places/ groups etc. Perhaps this is something you could do in your local community. It's one way of educating people ( especially health professionals ) and in so doing it helps keep my asthma in my control. I hope this has been beneficial to you. Hope you keep well. LIZ x

I regularly go in to 3 chemists in my home town, also a big Boots in nearby town, and have never seen any AUK leaflets. I wonder how they got in your small pharmacy? Maybe the pharmacist has a special interest in asthma?

Hi liz & Angeline,

I only wish i saw it weeks ago when i complained to boots about the whole asthmagate incident - i would have just posted it to them! I was really really impressed with the emergency clinic as they had a wall of them i walked out of the consultation room and just went 'wow'. Then crossed the road to pick up my new wonder drug (flixonase nebules) and saw the pharmacist one!

I wonder why all pharmacists dont have one - it would be good for people to even read as they wait for their own prescriptions. I might actually walk into that boots and that pharmacist and give it too her! I think asthma needs a better definition well redefinition and most people dont understand the variations of it.

My asthma is not brittle but its difficult and means i have to juggle a variety of steroid based medicines, ok it is quite high only my ventolin is steroid free, but this doesnt mean that everytime i go to a chemist the pharmacist is gonna think im some sort of junkie! (and quiz me like crazy!)
