Hi I have just discovered this forum after suffering badly with my asthma for the last few months.
I have been asthmatic since I was 2 years old now 41. I started taking symbicort 200/6 about 8 years ago 2 puffs morning and night and this worked really well for me until the last few months. I seem to be getting very breathless 3 or 4 days every week and using my reliever ventolin doesn't seem to make a difference. I went to the doctor the other day and she prescribed singulair so I guess I will give that a try. I have also noticed that when I wake in the morning these days my nose is totally blocked almost as if I have a cold but I don't - is this related to the asthma in anyway?. Any adivce or info would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like your asthma's, not being very well controlled, and hope the singulair works, but symbicort is a dual purpose medication, a preventer and a protector, so you can use that instead of ventolin. Actually it sounds like you may have been better off with a slight increase in you preventer, but you'd have to check that with your GP is the singulair doesn't work.
The blocked nose in the mornings was something I had last winter. Some form of nasal rinse may be worth a try, neti-pot, or this webstore.neilmed.com/uk/ind... which I use, but ordinary sea salt now, just as effective, and if I miss a few days I do notice it.
