Question for those on long term sick

hey peeps,

hope you are all doing well today!

I was just wondering how people cope financially etc when they are off sick or unable to work? I am starting to struggle slightly and am considering moving somewhere smaller etc but i was wondering what other people do?

Sorry about your financial woes,we are pampered at BNFL in that you get full pay for about a year or so before it starts to affect your wages-traditionally we have always had a ""whipround"" for anyone whose wages have dropped-£1 per person per week to keep the wolves at bay but that has only happened 3 times in the 22 years I have been working here but its a good safety net-again,I realise it doesnt help you at the mo,but might it be worthwhile starting a similar scheme among your colleagues??

There are a lot of Benevolent Funds out there aimed at various industries. They are superb organisations that generally support those who have fallen on hard times and may need a helping hand. They are not there just for contributors.

Caravan is the charity for the grocery industry and, like most Benevolent Funds, it raises funds from within that industry. Their web site is caravan.smartchange.org/.

hey,

thanks for your advice - a years full sick pay? You are pampered! We get a week for every year we've worked plus an extra week so for me it works out at around eight weeks.

Thanks for pointing me to the charity website unfortunately i don't qualify. I'm probably going to end up moving.
