After effects from asthma attack

Hi, I always find that after I have an asthma attack, I go very very cold - I can't stop shivering for ages I wrap up in duvets and turn the fire up high but still I am freezing cold it also it leaves me very shaky and dizzy. Is this normal or is it just me.

I get very shaky from the amounts of ventolin (blue reliver) i have needed but i dont get cold.

I've only ever had 1 attack, and that was I don't know why, but was working out in that real cold weather last year, froze to the bone, literally, a noting I did would warm me up. I remember going to the docs the next day, and was still wrapped and looked like the michelin man, with a total of 9 layers on. It was freezing by day though. Feeling shaky and dizzy were what i recall afterwards, and put this down to the O2 deficit and shock.

I get this reaction even in summer when it is very warm, I do drink hot drinks, although sometimes I shiver so much I can't hold the cup without spilling it. I have spoken to my asthma nurse about this but she said she had never heard of this reaction before. I guess its just how my body works. I do worry about what would happen if I had an attack outside in Winter time.

I get very cold and shiver ad thats when i do the 9s. seems strange really ive managed to cope with the attack but when this happens think its time to go in-bit cart before the horse i know

On reading the posts here, I find I'm going 'I've always done that after a bad coughing fit anyway'.

The more I read the posts on here, the more I wonder that my asthma wasn't picked up sooner. Then I remember I never read anything into all the little bits and most likely didn't mention to my GPs.

Hi there Skippyd,

I also have the same problem with coldness after an attack and am unsure as to why it happens. I find the best way around it is to curl up under a duvet, have a cup of hot, sweet tea and have a good rest somewhere quiet.

Many thanks for your replies, it's good to know I am not the only one this happens to. My son bought me one of those little hot water bottles that you squash to heat up- I take it with me when I go out just in case. It's very strange how people difer so much in the ways they react and the after effects they can have from attacks.

Hi , I just (about an hour and half ago) had a pretty bad asthma attack(I have had asthma all my life)and after a severe one I usually feel very tired,weak and shaky but after this one I was very cold , to the bone cold. Was hospitalized once ,scared the pants off my husband cause I totally stopped breathing! He was ready to bring me to the hospital this time but I didn't stop breathing so... I am thinking maybe because our bodies are expending so much energy on breathing that it takes oxygen from other parts of the body? But I have had many ,many severe episodes all my life and never had this one where I felt so cold! I hope you are doing well! I have a cup of hot cocoa and blankets on now! Feeling much better ! Just really fatigued , weak and a headache! Take care!
