I was diagnosed with adult onset asthma (mild) about 6 months ago, and since then I've gone from using Salbutamol, to using Beclometasone, and today have had salmeterol inhaler added to the collection.
Seems that since diagnosis my respiratory health has declined rapidly. Has anyone else experienced this?
Must say that although my ribs hrt like hell from all the coughing and I'm exhausted, the green inhaler is making me feel so much better.
It may not be a rapid acceleration in symptoms, but this sounds like the normal process of finding out what meds are need for you. The object is to give you that least amount of medication to control you symptoms, and you are still in the testing stage.
I was diagnosed after trying ventolin for 6 weeks, the had beclometasone for another 6 weeks, then had salmeterol added to the list. After using a combination of salmeterol and beclometasone for a month or so, i was put on seretide, which is a combination of the two, different steroid though.
You will find that if your peak flows are still low or unstable after trying the salmeterol, that you may get given something else, or reffered on to a specialist. If your peak flow stabalises, then a combination will be better.
How do you find the beclometasone. It gave me a sore throat, but using a spacer sort of solved that, and a spacer also helps you get more of the medication into your lungs, so if you have trouble with a sore throat, or the PF readings are still questionable, try a spacer, for all the inhalers.

Thanks for your reply. It's good to know that what I'm experiencing is 'normal'. I'm getting on OK with the Beclometasone. Although I didn't get a sore throat, it did make me hoarse for quite a while, but that seems to have settled down now. And I did use a spacer for a while, purely because being new to this asthma lark, my technique wasn't good. However, last night I decided to use my spacer for my daily inhalers, just to ensure that I get enough into my lungs. Fortunately my inhaler technique has improved loads after having my first review.
Last night I had the best night's sleep I've had for ages. No tight chest, no coughing, slept like a baby. Yippeeeeee

Yes nice to know that im not the only one either, like yourself i was dianosed not long ago (4 months) and have seen a acceleration of symptoms, thinking that my asthma should be improving!!
nice to know this is normal and part of the 'trail and error' of meds, i am currently on salbutomol and Qvar and now just been given steriod tablets for 5 days and anti-biotics, as im feeling as bad now as I was when i first got dianosed, I hope it will calm down soon? im finding it hard and is it normal to get quite emotional at these stages?

Emotional? Oh yes.
I remember back when I was first diagnosed, having to have a couple of days off work when I was bad, and talking to my boss on the phone, I ended up bursting into tears.
A few months further down the line, and I'm more philosophical, but then it was all new to me, I was exhausted, and didn't know what was happening to my body.
