Couple questions. Pred and asthma reviews.

Hi all,

Hope everyone's keeping well. I have a couple of questions. Firstly, should Prednisolone be gradually reduced after a short (5 day) course of 30mg a day? Only been on Pred twice since diagnosis, and first time was a 2 day course, followed by reducing dose every day until finally not having any. Last time I was on 5 days of Pred, but saw a different doc, who said it's fine to just stop taking once 5 days is up, no need to reduce gradually on such a short term course. Well I finshed on Monday and all OK. But from about 10pm last night I started to feel a bit weird, until by lunchtime today I felt dreadful. Was so tired, head felt full of cotton wool, couldn't focus, felt sick and dizzy and doubted my ability to drive the 26 miles home from work. I hung in there, and went to bed for 2 hours when I got in. Still feel tired and wobbly. Wondered if this was related in any way to the way I came off Pred this time.

Secondly, I got a letter today saying I needed an asthma review. First one was in October last year, and as far as I'm aware, I'm meant to go yearly. I've been in and out of the docs recently and wondered if this is something that's generated automatically after a visit to A&E? Do they let your practice know from A&E if you've had to go in for an emergency?

Thanks for reading.

Hi kitanda, you can have a short 5 day course and just stop at end. You do sometimes feel tired or exhausted (physically) for a few days after or i do.

Asthma reviews should be done yearly, or after a bout of unstableness or during a bout of unstableness or when you have any questions.

Hope that helps

Hi Kitanda,

I stopped dead after a short 5 day course and like yourself felt tired, dizzy etc... however you will get over it and be ok, lots of rest and relaxation is they key.

I would think that maybe as you have had a lot of activity with your asthma, maybe they are getting you in early, all you admissions to a & e, hossie etc.. all go on your doctors records, hey its a good thing! for once the docs are helping you and keeping an eye out!! ;0)

actually can't complain, my docs have been good recently ;0)

hope you get better soon!

kel xx
