I'm new to these forums, didn't even know this website existed. Now I can ask fellow suffers something I've always wondered. Just before I get an attack I get a really strange itch on my chin that no scratching will remove. Does anyone else get this and does anyone know why it happens?

I get a really itchy back, right between the shoulder blades that no itch will get rid off, just before an attack. I have always wondered why it happens.

I've had this before not on my chin though but in the center of my chest its usually the start of a big attack for me. My friend Andrea (wheezyab) gets an itchy chin and nose too and agrees it usually means a nasty attack for her too.

If you Google 'Itchy Chin' it comes up with some asthma type info where it is clearly listed as one of the 'I'm about to have an attack' kind of symptoms.
Personally I get an itchy, cobwebby face, very severe sudden onset itching in the roof of my mouth, and deep in my ears. Drives me mad and although I don't get it with every attack, when I do, it def means splat coming.
Several boards ago, well the ones that existed before the ones before these, we had a huge discussion thread on itchy chin syndrome.
I wonder if any of the old gang know how to access it from any existing archives?
Scientifically (Deek, you around to step in please?) common sense tells me it is to do with production of Histamine....ie one's allergic reponse....
I also get an itchy chin and just underneath if im about to get very tight. my consultant said it was due to a sudden relase of histamine. whatever that means!!
Hellooo! I get itchy chin too, but progressed to whole itchy face & neck, sorted with piriton yesterday.

Yeh, I would say you are probably right about histamine causing itchy chin syndrome. I have not done any scientific prodding in this area so I cant really offer much more, other than saying that; under the chin (and especially under the tongue) are very sensitive blood rich areas and therefore this could explain the symptoms (often before an asthma exacerbation) when histamine has been produced, but not in sufficient quantity as to show symptoms in other areas of the body (at that point in time).
I have had a wee trawl through the old archives but haven’t really come across anything noteworthy other than to say that itchy chin syndrome does appear to be quite common. I know i said i get an itchy back, well today the whole of my upper body is itchy. I have v bad hayfever, ive got a very itchy nose & want to sneeze but its just not coming out. Im also v wheezy. Im going away tomorrow with work to centre parcs in Elveden, hope i will be ok, for the wk. just looked @ the weather there & its going to be 35 / 36 on thursday thats HOT!!!!!!!!!!

Since I read this I have been taking more notice of itches and realise I sometimes get itchy feet before an attack, as an early warning it means I use ventolin sooner and can keep attacks under control better. It is probably coincidence but it beats an attack going brittle and having to call the paramedics.

Your itchy feet observations are interesting. I wonder if this could be the symptoms of cross sensitivity/reaction.
Many regulars who post here appear to be sensitive/allergic to mildew, airborne moulds and fungal spores which can trigger/exacerbate asthma. I am also aware that ‘Athletes Foot’ causes itchy feet and this is caused by a fungal infection. Could there be a connection? …..mmmmm, possibly. Would anyone else wish to comment on this?

I don't have athlete's foot and it is only the tops of my feet that itch. Unless it is a reaction to washing powder but then it is only sometimes. If it is a reaction to washing powder I am in trouble as the only one I can use is Fairy nonbiological!
Suffering from plantar fasciitis for over a year made shopping for shoe a difficult task. I had read about Orthofeet and thought I would take a gamble. They are by far the BEST shoe for me. I had cleared my pain up over the winter months and was ready to get back into my walking routine. I bought plantar fasciitis shoes and absolutely LOVE them. Can walk three miles and have no pain afterwards. My walking shoes have turned into my working shoes. I will order another pair as soon as I have time to look and decide. Currently own the boot and now the walking so the third pair will be a charm!
