Referal to Royal Brompton

Hi

I've noticed that alot of people on here see consultant at the Royal Brompton. Is this 'the' specialist asthma unit in the uk??

How did you get refered?

By consultant has been scratching his head for a while now and I think I need another opinion to try and control my brittle asthma better.

Thanks

Truly

The Brompton is certainly one of the centres of excellence for asthma treatment in the UK. The others are Prof Ayres in Scotland (for anyone who gets the AUK magazine, he was featured this month), the Heartlands hospital near Birmingham, and Southampton. I'm sure others will be along with their suggestions too.

Hi Cathbear.

Do you know where in Scotland Prof Ayres is based?

Yeah Ive been told to consider being referred to Heartlands or possibly RBH as my current consultant says he cant really do much more than prescribe home nebs and that they need to find out more about what is going on with my asthma. He said he thinks my asthma is Brittle.I would have agreed to the referral now its just that I havent been under adult resp care for long and Im still trying to figure out my options, it seemed more simple on Paeds! :p

Not sure I'm afraid - if Owl comes along she might be able to say, cos if I remember correctly she has been under his care.

prof jon ayres is based in aberdeen. he works with aberdeen university. he may work elsewhere in scotland but i know he is in aberdeen. hope this helps

Jon Ayres is definitely in Aberdeen- I see him in clinic, and was in a meeting with him today - he is lovely, and fantastic with difficult/brittle asthma.

I don't think he sees patients elsewhere, but would probably see people referred from out of area if you could get funding agreed.

Jen if you want to know more pm me
