Pain in side

i have had a pain in my back ribs for several months now - its' getting worse if anything. Have had x rays - clear - blood tests good except one to do with bones and slightly raised liver function. Dr wants me to have bone density scan?? Have had loads of steroids over the last 2 1/2 years am also post menopause.... is it the steroids and despite clear x ray is it possible I have small fracture in ribs that can't be seen...? Any advice gratefully received

I'm really very fed up now!
