Asthma Friendly cleaning products?

Anyone got and suggestions on asthma friendly cleaning products for kitchens/bathrooms/laminate floors? My fiance likes to use bleach for anything he can and barely dilutes it which is never good for my lungs! Just wondered what other asthmatics have been using. Cheers

I use washing up liquid to clean the kitchen surfaces, and do my laminate floors with flash for laminate floors. They're both fine for my asthma.

I haven't found anything for cleaning the bathroom that doesn't make me cough and wheeze, so I do little bits at a time with the windows wide open, because I like a clean bathroom!

Thanks Gamba, I like the place to be clean too, looks like the bathroom's are gonna remain fiancé's job, I'm rather glad we have 2 bathrooms so we can clean one at a time as even with the windows open it takes a day or 2 before I can go in there without coughing a lung up! I can't touch washing up liquid either as because I'm allergic to it, and even wearing gloves brings me out in a rash, I think I'm allergic to everything, lol! Will have a go with the flash and see how I get on, I think my housework may end up being limited to doing the washing and loading the dishwaser. I think I need a housemaid! =P

You're lucky in a way, to have an excuse not to do all that cleaning!

Hopefully the flash will be ok for you.

hi.

I use white vinegar and lemon juice. Makes things very shiny. And I can breath too.

hi i use a lot of home made cleaning stuff as i find it less iritating than shop bought, although the eco ranges ive found are good. for the kitchen tops etc i use a cleaning cloth that has silver in it, all you do is wet it and wipe which disinfects. ive also got one for my bathroom. for the floor tiles i put my mop in hot water over night with washing up liquid, a couple of drops of teatree oil and a very very small amount of bleach. it works fab and because its sat over night i dont smell it and then i reuse the water to throw on the patio area that the dogs use. no idea about laminate but would a small amount of washing up liquid diluted work after brushing? i dont use bleach down the loos unless im out for the day and often use cheap cola to clean the loo overnight without flushing. i put teatree in everything as it doesnt make me wheezy, i even use it as a home made fabric/air freshener (mixed with water but apparently mixing with vodka is better but i wouldnt waste vodka on that!). i dont use furniture polish as i just damp dust. hope these help x

Hi,

we have just layed a tile floor (replacing carpets to help with asthma symptoms) and we baught a steam cleaner.

We found the steam cleaner is very versatile and works well in the bathroom (sparkles like new),

kitchen and on the tile floors without any fumes or strong smells. Not tried on laminate floors though manufacturer says ok to do so.

we have only had this for about a month, but it has reduced the cleaning products used in the house.

the only down side is the initial outlay (about £90-100 for a good one, though cheaper models are available). As for furniture, window sill etc, we tend to damp dust.

Good luck with what ever you decide, HAPPY CLEANING!

Not a cleaning product as such but just thought i'd share that i just tried the allergy approved ambi pure puresse air freshener...I was sceptical but its alot gentler but still a nice smell!!
