How long until I notice something?

hi, I may have asked this sort of thing before, sorry if I am repeating myself (I have an awful memory!)

My dr has just taken me off seretide 125mcg and put me on to beclometason 100 (4 puffs twice a day) with serevent 50 (1 puff twice a day) in a attempt to settle breathing down. I've been using these new inhalers for about 4 days now. How long should I give it before I can expect to see an improvement? I know if you start taking preventer inhalers when you've never used them it takes up to two weeks to feel the full action but is it the same when you just change the drugs?

sorry for the waffle

Christine

Hi Christine

After 4 days I think you should be starting to notice some improvement, although it could take a week for the full effect. Give it a few more days, but if nothing's happening, I would go back to see the doc. Hope you're doing OK! :)

thanks brynne,

Had a good day yesterday, especially in the evening (which is when it normally gets me) so i'm thinking the inhalers might be working, but i've had a few symtoms today and tonight, although i'm stressed out about something and i don't think that's helping.

I have a vague memory of the dr saying something about reducing the dose, but i'm not sure if she meant by myself or when i go back and see her (she's only given me a months supply). I might have had asthma 21 yrs but I've never reduced my steroid inhaler dose by myself :o/ i'm thinking i should stay as i am until i see her, what do u think?

Christine

Hi Christine

Glad you're doing a little better. If your doc said something about reducing, you could try it yourself. Just wait until you are completely well, that means almost no symptoms. If you do get there, you can try stepping down, and if it doesn't work just go back up. If it doesn't feel quite right then I'd just stay as you are and wait for your doctor.

Thanks brynne, things looked a bit promising yesterday, had a few symtoms in the gym but i expected that and was fine in the evening. today though it's playing up again, i reckon i'm gonna need my reliever a total of 2 or 3 times by the end of the day :o/
