Hello,

I have recently been to see my gp with regards to a ""cough"" that I get every time the weather gets cold, they seem to think that this could be asthma and have given me a peak flow to do over the next 10 days. My highest reading so far is 250, is this a good reading or a bad reading? I am quite wheezy at the moment, for the last 3 years they have passed my cough off as post viral but it coincides with me suffering from hayfever (only the past 3 years aswell) and I get wheezy with it aswell.

Welcome scooby. Your pf is low but hope meds help now.You will make lots of friends and suport. Welcome again love Glynis x

Thanks. I always thought that asthma meant people struggling to breathe, my mum has very bad asthma but I thought getting to 30 with no issues that I had escaped it! Do you qualify for the flu jab with asthma, this affects me every year sometimes twice in the winter period :-(

yes ask your docs and should be able get one.Had mine last week xxx

Are you more susceptible to flu with asthma?

That was a question I asked a while back.Flu and colds and virus can trigger attacks and cold weather. l was 43 when got asthma xxx

I don't think it's so much you are more susceptible to flu (unless you are on certain medications) but that if you get it it effects you more?

Someone with a cold only has to look in mine and my son's direction, and we catch it. I think our immunity systems have been weakened by years of steroids and antibiotics. Also if we asthmatics catch colds, it often goes on the chest and worsens asthma. So it is a good idea to have the flu jab.

Re. your peak flow Scooby, everyone's is different, but 250 is low. Keep checking the peak flow and then go back to the GP. They will sort you out.

Good luck and I hope things improve for you.

Well I have had the worst night ever, my chest is really tight and painful and I felt like I was struggling to breathe. Even the ventolin had no effect so i am off to the out of hours surgery!
