Hi, could be coincidence (cold, triggers?) but not impossible that it is the preventer! This happened to me with Symbicort, made me worse. Asthma nurse at surgery said not possible, all I'd get is a rash or something if not tolerating it but AUK adviceline said yes, it is possible to have a reaction and be worse on it.

Don't know if possible for others - what is the new preventer?

I can't use the beclametasone preventers because they aggravate my asthma. When I was put on the pulmicort inhaler (budesonide) after 3 years on the beclametasone high dose inhaler and 3 years of uncontrolled asthma (when I was in my 20's) my asthma started improving within days.

I tried Qvar (beclametasone) in my 30's and it confirmed my suspicions and my symptoms worsened.

The new preventer is flixotide (the orange one)

I tryed symbocort and after a week of taking it I was to horse to talk, very tricky with lots of essays

also tryed beclomethsone but that didn't improve things

am trying to avoid going back to dr's especially if I get the response no rash no problem reaction

I have had trouble getting my asthma under control (or so I thought) for 18 months, by accident I stopped taking one if the preventers I was on and my symptoms went from 3 times a week to about once a month! Other complaints I had also dissapeared within a week if stopping it! So yes, it must be possible that some medications can make you worse.

Don't know if this information will help you but when I was put onto Flixotide 250 inhaler my Consultant told me to rinse my mouth with water to avoid oral thrush and hoarseness

Hi

the preventer is not suiting you, see your gp asap. I used intal and the cannister kept getting stuck and i was getting no medication so it was changed to another non steroid inhaler, about 2 weeks after i had it i had an asthma attack. You may need a longer acting one or somthing different altogether and good luck.

Another non-steroid inhaler

Sorry to hijack your thread for a moment tyber28 - was just curious as Lola mentioned another non-steroid inhaler.

Lola, can I ask what this other inhaler was? I'm on Intal, and some other things, and not that well controlled. I don't think the Intal's contributing (I get worse when off it) but as I don't seem to respond to steroids I'm interested in the options for the non-steroid inhalers; wondering if this other one would be something they could try for me (unless I have same reaction as you!)

Hi Philomela i was on Nedoclenil or tilade - same thingy different name. Only on it 2 weeks as my asthma nurse told me its good for when doing exercise. ha, the only exercise i got was my right arm when using my ventolin reliever as my asthma symptoms spiralled out of control on it!!!!!!!!! LOL . I only stopped using intal as the nozzel kept getting stuck with the medication even after cleaning it and got bored of that game thats when prescribing tilade came into play but not for long.

Now i am back on clenil as having a nasty attack my gp took me off the non steriod straight away. I was hoping the asthma nurse would of done that on the Monday after the attack on the Saturday lunchtime, but she said carry on with the medication you are on. I suppose she thought she was doing the right thing at the time. Also i was shocked i was not admitted overnight as i still felt bad in the evening. I saw out of hours doc and he said if you feel any worse later go to hospital It was only when i saw the gp 2 weeks later she said you are only to use the steroid. Also i was given ventolin nebules while the steroid kicked in as i was still diagnosed with uncontrollable asthma at this point.

i do hope this helps, if you want any more info please contact me

I was on tilade for a couple of years when I was in my 20's Philomela, but because I was on it with a beclametasone inhaler (becotide and then becloforte) which aggravated my asthma, I don't know how effective it was. Very powdery and horrible taste lol.

Thanks Lola! Pretty similar to Intal it seems but obviously did not agree with you so glad you found something else - does the Clenil work for you now? Possibly something they could try instead of the Intal but if they do I'll keep an eye out for any nasty effects.

That sounds like not the best management of an asthma attack- hope that doesn't happen to you again!

EDIT: and thanks JF! My new bottom standard for taste is Atrovent. I'm not sure I want to know about anything that tastes worse than that unless it's really, really amazingly effective and a wonder drug. (I tolerate the Atrovent because it works a lot better than Ventolin).

If I remember correctly they added a mint flavour to disguise the taste but it then became a horrible mint taste lol. Like you say though, if it works, a horrible taste can be tolerated.

Yes, positive reinforcement lol! It's amazing what you can learn to like if it's associated with being able to breathe more easily, even if it's only for an hour or two.
