phlegm ?

Hi

Not sure what this means, or even if I should be concerned, but this morning, for the first time I coughed up a small amount of porridge coloured thick phlegm.

I don't have a persistent cough, but did do a tough 10K Xcountry race last night, and two waist deep river crossings, and really pushed myself, so that could be the cause? Ok reduced PF readings, but if i didn't do a PF reading I would never know.

opaque phlem is quite common in asthmatics. It is often the mucus plugs from the lungs. As long as it is clear or white opaque, no real need to worry but if you have other symptoms such as breathlessness, pain, temperature etc etc etc or if it goes a yucky colour such as green or yellow, see GP.

You have obviously worked the lungs hard and managed to shift some phlem etc which is probably a good thing.

Though if at all worried, seek help... I assume you are sensible!

Take care

Kate

Whenever I've been running or done vigorous exercise this has happened to me. When I asked my consultant he didn't seem too worried about it and thought it was relatively normal so long as, like kate says, it is not a mucky colour.

Enjoy the work outs!

Thanks guys, never happened before, but then I don't usually push a 51min 10K through high grass, rough stone tracks, muddy woodland, and river crossings. Don't think it's all cleared now, as been coughing all day, and as I type, but it's not a constant cough like pre-singulair days.

Apart from the cough, i'm fine, even though I have a PF this morning of 75%, I have a very high PB, and 75% is above the lower limit of my predicted range anyway.

this happens to me too... it can be a relief sometimes ;) although it's not fun getting it up haha.

Any colour other than whitish tho and you gotta see the doc!
