Difficulty getting flu jab.

Well it's that time of year again and the posters are up. I've tried to get my flu jab but my GP's surgery is only offering a limited number of times when they will give the jab. The first week they offered was fully booked and then this week they could only offer one time slot that was impossible for me to make. It feels as if they're making things really difficult, surely I could get the jab when I have to see one of the GPs next week - but no, it has to be in the allotted time slot.

I wonder if anyone else is having this kind of problem?

Personally I don't bother with flu jabs because once many moons ago i had the jab still got a dose of flu several months later and nearly ended up in ICU. But I personally find if your receptionists are being awkward about finding a suitable time slot for you to have your jab, make an appointment to see practice manager. Amazing how all of a sudden they cannot do enough for you. My surgery is very good now, but I had all sorts of issues and Receptionists just didn't understand. A meeting with the practice manager was very helpful. I now have a excellent relationship with my medical practice.

Good luck

I know that feeling- today i was rather unhelpfully offered next monday or this saturday both of which i can't do because im working, her reply was- oh well you will have to wait then ring back in 2 weeks, or was given the option to make a doctors appointment for something else and slot it in at the end- surely not wise seeing as i dont need a doctors appointment.

I'm glad it's not just my surgery that's only offering limited appointments. As I've got a tendency to get a lot of colds at this time of year which always make my asthma worse I think I'll bring it up at my GP appointment on Monday.

my doc dont have a appointments they have walkins on 2 saturdays

I m meant to be getn my jab tommorow but will be workn so got told to come to the next one in 2 wks time.

My local superdrugs is selling jab for just under £10 I know not the same as its free at gps but worth passing on

There was a sign up on the board in my GP's saying anyone with asthma had to book a review with asthma nurse, and I got my flu jab then, I know they're sending out letters aswell for people.

thats sounds ridiculous ! my surgery have 3 different open days from 8am to 6pm where you just turn up and if none of those dates/times are suitable you can book a routine nurse appt, sounds like your surgery is being very inflexible, either they want you to have it or they dont!

My GP surgery you dont need appointment there are three nurses from sept to october on certain days of the week you just have to go in fill in a green form which is basically to say why you need flu jab. They done the same last year and in waiting room there was more there for flu jab than to see a dr.

I guess they're just being awkward. The first year I had a flu jab they had several mornings and the queue went right down the road. I'm just annoyed with them for making it so difficult. The one time I did get flu, I ended up in hospital for 8 days with a very serious chest infection. Oh well, I'll see what the doc has to say on Monday.
