Taking Steam an asthma trigger.

Hi

Odd thought crossed my mind as i was about to buy another Olbas oil. Could there be a link to taking steam using mentol oils and things like olbas? I was reading a link about the dangers of perfume and i made me think that there may be some kind of link.

Is that a stab in the dark or could I have just isolated something im doing to clear my sinusitis but this is what is kicking the asthma off?

Not sure about Olbas oil - but have bumped up a rhinitis/sinusitis thread which might be helpful.

Steam is a questionable one, some will do well others it'll cause problems. I know I bought a warm mist steam vaporiser few years back, mentioned it to my asthma nurse and she laughed as it was winter at the time and she had the de-humidifier on in her room. Yet when I mentioned it to my GP he actually said yes, so differing opinions within the same practice.

Personally during the winter I find it helps, puts the moisture back in the air, but this time of year never tried it and don't feel I'd benefit even though the humidity is actually lower now.

Regarding oils, again all different and the traditional eucalyptus and camphor oils tend to make me slightly worse. Bergamot is supposedly good for asthma and one that I do find has a mild benefit in winter along with tea tree oil in the vaporiser.

Other than that I tend to use a lot of genuine essential oils (not synthetic), either in the bath or in massage.
