dizziness when short of breath
hmm... i dont know whether thats because you are seriously not getting enough oxygen in your lungs or whether you are slightly panicking? and so breathing too fast which would make you dizzy..
Hello,
It is probably more like Hyperventilation. Asthmatics often panic and start breathing faster. Too much oxygen makes you feel dizzy. Do you get tingly fingers as well. If so, sit down quietly and take your reliever then try to get your breathing under control - harder said than done sometimes. Do not use a paper bag - this method has been bannished now! However, If you are having as severe attack a shortage of oxygen can also make you feel dizzy too - this is serious and needs help ASAP. If you still feel dizzy please get help and if your reliver isn't working. eg 999
Many new asthmatics will panic and breathe faster - hyperventilating as not being able to breathe is scarry! Also get in a comfortable position for you, often sitting down somewhere quiet, get a friend to shoo away onlookers and lean slightly forward and try to relax - yes it can be hard and scary at first until you get a grip of this Asthma thing!
Hope this helps
Kate

I very rarely have full blown attacks but I had one back in october where I had extreme dizzyness when I couldn't breathe and black dots all over my vision
I was going to get a taxi to the close by hospital (though I wouldn't have made much sense on the phone and nobody at the train station bothered even asking if i was ok!) but I just sat constantly taking my inhaler and taking as slow breaths as i could. I think panic is part of it as not feeling that you can breathe properly is very scary. I didn't go to the hospital that day though maybe I should have done. I felt terrible for about a week though afterwards.
You should speak to your asthma nurse about it
