Hi,

I would go and discuss it with your asthma nurse, he/she may advise going down to 1 puff twice a day for a few months first to see how you get on. Also, if you do manage to come off them or reduce them, have an action plan to restart/increase them as soon as you are using a reliever more than twice a week.

Good luck,

Jac

Stepping down on meds could make it worse again but depends on if asthma keeps away.. worth a try!

Do you use your salbutamol much?

First step in stopping see GP

Good luck!

Read your previous post where you wanted rid of the asthma from taking over your life, not letting you sleep and work. Sounds like the asthma is better controlled now by taking your brown inhaler. Asthma does not get better like a cold gets better. Its still there in the background.

Please talk with your doctor before taking the decision to stop the inhaler altogether. Better to get his say so, rather than to just stop. This way its written on your notes for future reference.

Take care,

GM

Before you alter or stop any medication it s always better to discuss it with a health professional .... Step down programme is better than just stopping as they have a plan as what to do when problems occurr ..... Nice to know things Are improving for you .

Hello,

The fact that your asthma is much better indicates that the brown preventer inhaler is working.

Once you stop your preventer, your lungs will not have any protection from inflammation and you will probably start to get symptoms again. This will lead to using more reliever inhaler (blue one)

Basically, the Preventer is Keeping you well so please don't stop taking it without speaking to your GP.

Also, why do you want to stop taking it? If you are worried that it is steroids, please don't because you are on a low dose plus these steroids are very safe inhaled and are not related to anabolic steroids taken by naughty sports people.

It is only two puffs twice a day, much better than having to sit down for 10-15 minutes recovering from an attack and using the blue inhaler.

Kate

Does anyone know how long it takes for the Inhaler to be effective. I've been on the brown one now for nearly 2 weeks and not noticed any change.

Don't make my mistake!

I stopped taking my inhaler about eight weeks ago, because I felt better. But when you stop taking your inhaler, you don't start taking them again because, as you have rightfully said, you don't want to take them anymore. And that's not good, and you don't benefit from it.

So... no. You should continue taking your preventer, or your Athma will get worse and worse, and there may be really bad coinciquences.

Trust me, I know!!
