am I having an asthma attack?

Fluffyfish i am sorry but how do we know when we are not with you.

If you think you are and need help then please call for it. Posting something like this is scary to others.

thats a bit harsh Bowmei :'(

Not really, we can't see you and you haven't described your symptoms!

Fluffyfish there are people here who have attacks that really do almost kill them. Asthma is not a joke. If you are having trouble breathing use your inhaler if it is not working call 999 or get your self to A&E pbut please don't post flippent comments like that, you are only cause a huge amount of hurt.

Bex

Its not harsh , more like stating the obvious lol that we arent mind readers! Maybe if you gave a more indepth explanation of how you are feeling people maybe recognise some of the symptoms. Are u having difficulty breathing?

I have posted already earlier asking for help and advice and nobody answered

I am strugglign and none of you care!

Fluffyfish i am not being hard but you can appreciate this site is used by children, adults some with no medical knowledge others that are new to asthma. I am certain you would not want them sat at home worrying about your welfare.

If you need specific help post your symptoms and specific quests. Asking if you are having an asthma attack with no description of your symptoms is not helping anyone. Unfortuantely though medically qualified we are not psychic. Please explain???

My chest hurts and I've been coughing a lot. I was breathless walking up hte stairs to my flat - had to stop halfway to get my breath. and now I've just been sick

Bex is right. If you feel something isn't right get yourself to a + e.

we do care if you feel that ill with no relief from inhalers or nebuliser then you should be calling your out of hours practioner or phoning and ambulance. Please get help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fluffy i have just found your original post, if you really are struggling to breath please ring 999, and ot isnt the case that people dont care cos they do!

FF, if you are for real then I suggest you call NHS direct.

Bex

I am for real! I struggle to communicate I am new to asthma. Quit being so harsh to me!

I am watiing for NHS Direct to ring me back!

I am sorry if this seems harsh but you are causing a lot of upset here tonight and worrying people who don't know you. Its now over an hour since you first posted about your symptoms, has there been any change or improvement? You say 'none of us care', I don't think it is our job to care when someone is demanding we make decisions and judgements about them when we do not know them at all.

Do Nhs direct take this long with a life threatening complaint???

Actually i think you manage to communicate very well , people are trying to help but none of us are physic and cannot send ventolin through the computer. If you struggling and need help you should ring 999 now.

I rang NHS Direct at 7.16pm

And now it is 20.50 as a medical secretary surely you know you have an out of hours dr who will phone you straight back or phone you an ambulance

Really? well if i was you I would make a complaint then as they have failed in their duty of care if they really tAKING this long. Can i suggest you think carefully about your postings and maybe use the time to get the help you say you need.

OK - everyone STOP.

FluffyFish, if you feel ill and you suspect it is an asthma attack, then either call NHS direct again, call your GP out of hours service, or go to your nearest A&E.

Even with full medical training it is very difficult to tell whether someone is having an asthma attack from an on-line description, particularly when you are newly-diagnosed and are not certain of your symptoms (we have all been at that stage, so I am not being patronising when I say that).

Online message boards are no substitute for ""real life"" medical advice.

Fluffyfish........... don't wait for the NHS helpline to call back. Just GO to A&E!!!

When i couldn't breath at 2am monday morning (didn't know i was having a asthma attack) my partner said 'come on get your clothes on, i'm taking you to A&E NOW'.

I'm so glad i went.

did they keep you in on Monday Julie?

No...... they let me out at 4.30am. My GP said that they should of kept me in because i had a temp of 105.

Please go and get some help, they might keep you in or they might not but either way its going to be better for you than struggling on your own. If NHS Direct are busy please go to a + e, they'd rather see you and get you checked out even if you aren't having a severe attack than see you much more poorly later on. Take care :-)

How are you Fluffyfish? Hope you are ok!
