Kenalog?!

I have just been to see my asthma nurse and with my hayfever the way it is and fexofenadine and sodium cromoglycate eye drops doing little to zilch. She wants me to stop taking pred to control my hayfever (she might have a point!) and I have an appointment with doc later to talk about Kenalog but all the stuff I have read about it so far suggest that steering well away is the best options?

Anyone tried it, on it or had any experience of it?

i have not used it but i am thinking of trying it as asthma really out of control and current meds are not working and not making it any better, so will be seeing asthma nurse and doctor to see if i can get on it

My cons says Kenalog rarly works and is only used more is specilised centers

Have they tried you on Piriton? (Chlorpheniramine Maleate or something!)

I always got given this in A&E to calm down hefty allergies and found it worked a treat + noticed it helped asthma. However it can make some folk seriously sleepy so docs are steering away from it. For me it works better than any other antihistamine (particularly pollen reaction), reduces my need for inhaler and has kept me away from A&E. It makes me a little tired, but I'm more tired if my asthma's not controlled. Have noticed tiredness eases if I keep moving around and doing things.

My Dad however will only have it when absolutely necessary as he sleeps (and snores!) at least 24hrs after having it.

Everyone's different so it's about finding what works for you, can take a while but you'll get there!

Good luck

Thank you for your responses. It was generally considered that everything had been tried in realtion to my hayfever.

Think I have tried piriton when I was stung by nettles and reacted rediculously and did work but knocked me out. I think I am susceptible to drowsy element of drugs as they once thought my asthma was stress related and gave me half a Calms tablet a day which just made me sleep for over twelve hours a day and fall asleep at school!

Anyways, I have had the injection today and not much to speak of except really really hot (bit like pred night sweats) and an achy leg.

Had heard from a few friends that it has totally relieved the hay fever for the whole season, and I thought how bad can one injection a year (even steroids) be if it stops one never-so-short course of pred?

I have been having Kenalog injections (80mg) every 4 weeks since November. My peak flow is still chaotic and the asthma is by no means under control, but I have definitely felt better in myself and have had far fewer exacerbations.

Hi,

i have been on Kenalog 40mg every 4 weeks for about 2 years now....and up untill recently it has completely changed my life around. The only thing i would say about it is that some of the side effects are a bit annoying but it just depends on how u personally react.

It doesnt work for eveyone and i find that makes me very tired and all steriod side effects have been hightened since it started however it does mean that i can life my life with fewer limitations.

hope this helps....sorry its soo doom and gloom :(
