Louise i read this in the paper earlier on in the week. Quite interesting. Brave man to say the least!!

Well its been talked about for years and years. There certainly may be something in it - but it will never be medically sanctioned to deliberately infect yourself with hookworms.

Warning: Don't read this next bit if you are squeamish!

I read a story recently about an american man who was so desperate to cure his asthma that he travelled to Cameroon and walked around in, well, human excrement for several weeks - until he managed to get a hookworm infection. He claims that his asthma is much better: full article here -

Of course, my viewpoint is still way skewed towards Buteyko as the most effective alternative treatment, but if a hookworm infection is clinically proven to work too, then that is great news for everyone. In the least, the chemicals or action the hookworm produces may be able to be chemically synthesised and administered without need for the worms themselves.

Well they are using leaches again medically, so if it works then who knows?

I'll have to work myself up to reading the full articles I think!

Xephos if you read the link they have given permission both for the Dr and his team to infect themselves and they are now carrying out full medical trials at Nottingham university. They only infect you with between 10-50 as any more puts you at risk of having aneamia.

Wouldn't it solve the pred weight gain problem too?

um give me pred inhalers nd nebs anyday! dont fancy having worms tbh
