even with the PS3 being around the corner, i still love old game like Spyro The Dragon, Crash Bandicoot and even the master system version of Sonic the Hedgehog, is anyone else in to gaming or even retro gaming?

Retro....ahhh...

We used to have a ZX Spectrum, yes, in those days even before Sega Megadrive, Nintendo and WAY before PS2, PSone.....

Used to love playing things like the Dizzy games, the Hobbit....

My cousins later had a Sega Megadrive and I did develop an affection for Sonic.

When I was younger my brother and I had a sega mega drive and I have to admit I too have a soft spot for Sonic the Hedgehog and also Altered Beast, Golden Axe and James Pond! Anyone remember those ones?

Sonic and lemmings I just loved those little critters.

Bex

DIZZY!! I used to have that on the Amstrad, way back when games were on magnetic tape!

lemmings is now out on the PS2 and PSP (the ps2 does eyetoy too!)

never got the mega drive, it kinda went: Pong, Atari (dont remember too much here, mum does tho), Amstrad, Master system, PSX, Game boy, PS2 and my new fave my little PSP with megadrive collection and burnout legends, perfect for pmt!

Ah yes, games on tape. And you were lucky if they loaded in one go (without the dreaded ""R Tape Loading Error"") and under about 20 minutes. I thought my primary school pal was hip and cool because her computer took floppies and games only took about five minutes to load.

In a dark corner somewhere I still have my Amstrad CPC464. I've also still got a Commodore Amiga 500 (and several hundred games) and an Amiga A1200 - complete with a built-in 240Mb (yes, Mb) hard drive!

The Amstrad came with a green screen monitor and had a built in tape deck - no more dreaded loading errors. The deck was very reliable and, 23 years on, still works!

When I started doing professional video production we used Super VHS and used the A1200 to do all the titling. Fantastic little machine; goes from power off to fully loaded Workbench (the Amiga version of Windows) in about 8 seconds!

James Pond and Lemmings were two favourites of mine that have already been mentioned. Being an F1 fan I'm also very partial to Microprose Grand Prix and the excellent Indianapolis 500 - both use 3D graphics which, in the early 90s, was very cool and funky.

Best fun by far when a group of friends came around was (still is, in fact) Worms. The very last game ever commercially released for the Amiga was Worms Directors Cut - still installed on my A1200!

Chuckie Egg how infuriating was that!

Bex

My mum loved chuckie egg she would play it for hours on our very first computer a BBC it would take ages for it to load and if i remember rightly it was a tape!!!!

One of the good things about the Nintendo Wii console is the Virtual Console where you can download the old retro games from NES, SNES, Megadrive, N64, etc and play them on the Wii.

At some point I heard a rumour that they were going to include C64 games as well - but that'd be too good to be true.

OMG!! we had that particular amstrad ahh how much fun was the CPC 464 with a colour monitor and at one point Thomas the Tank Engine, that was really good, and as it loaded it would make a picture of the game, my dad used to say the noises it made were Martian music!! i used to play around programming it when i was about 8, made an impressive tennis game on it, following the manual, :D

My boyfriend is a retro gamer, he has a huge collection of retro stuff. He especially likes his Sega Master Systems as that was the first type of console he owned. He has too many retro consoles to name the strangest one being a Nintendo console in the shape of Pikachoo who's eyes light up red! He also has an xbox 360 a nintendo DS lite and he was 3rd on the pre-order list for a Wii. He loves his wii and has already played through Zelda which takes over 50 hours and downloads quite a few of the retro games on the virtual console. He also buys retro gamer magazine every month and keeps them all and recently he bought the 100 best video games ever. We go in every game station we can find hunting down retro games and he is always on Ebay!

I bought him a Pong t shirt last birthday and he also has a Sonic t shirt and he has a remote control mario cart!

I used to love Chucky Egg on my BBC, if you look online you can get an emulater and Chuky Egg to put on it. I have it somewhere! Its v cool! I also used to love playing sonic on my brother's Mega Drive. You can now get plug and play old sonic games for your TV from Toys R Us.

The great thing about the PC is - if you know where to look - you can get it to emulate pretty much anything, including older arcade machines!

We have a cracking Speccy emulator for the PC - the CD-ROM has several hundred games on it, too.

I'll have a look and see if it's freeware, and if it is I'll upload it somewhere (or find a link to the original).

peaksteve,

One of my boyfriends friends is getting an actual arcade cabinet to put a PC in so that he can play the games on an arcade cabinet through an emulator on his PC! I think that's very geeky!

Someone at work was telling me on ONE life last night there was a guy who had 150 retro arcade machines in storage. He had spent £50, 000 on them and had such classics as Pong as he had started collecting them 20 years ago. I text my boyfriend and he is very, very jealous! He lusts after the arcade machine's in selfridges which are £1,500 and queues up behind small children to play on them! Bless him!

Anyone know where I can get lemmings from please? ( the game, not the furry Scandinavian critters) Either for PC with no joy stick or for Gameboy Colour?

Ta

Kate

PS still playing Hamsterjam Rockman!

Sorry but ya cant beat good old pac man!! even got mrs pac man on me mobile!!

I love chuckie egg but don't think you can get it for a mac - although I'm willing to be corrected. Just as well I haven't loaded it onto my work pc or I'd never get anything done.

S

Kate dont know if still there but had lemmings for game boy on ebay?

Kate,

My boyfriend says you can play black and white game boy games on your game boy colour. You should be able to pick up a black and white game boy lemmings game. Which as Andrea pointed out you can find on ebay. Sometimes worth visiting your local game station (I was in there over half an hour this morning!).

Beth

Owl,

My other half said he'll have a look and find out. Apparently he put the emulator on my pc!

Beth

HAH!! Gnasty Gnorc won't be bothering the land of dragons now!!

Kate,

Good news! Lemmings is now sufficiently old enough to be classed as ""abandonware""; you can download a copy of it for the PC from here:

abandonia.com/games/37/5

Check out the Abandonia website in general, cos there's some cracking stuff on there!

I understand you. I don't perceive modern games at all, I like to play something like classics, say, cs go, tf2, and so on. I also like these games because I can make money from them combining business with pleasure. If you didn't know, then there is a great opportunity to sell skins at dmarket.com/trade-tf2-skins . This is very cool, because, for example, I don't need these skins at all.
