Hey ST, sounds like a good idea... would you be after longer prose passages, that kind of thing?

So would you like something like a day in the life sort of thing?

Hi ST ..asthma, and doing one's utmost to avoid it when well do lead to a way of life, touching on many situations from petty to serious and leading to events that can be both scary and / or even funny in retrospect. As a bit of a wordoholic myself I would relish the oportunity to sometimes contribute to some kind of combined creative blog, be it here or elswehere.

I already have my own blog on this subject. I think I'm right in saying that I'm okay to post a link to my blog here as there's no monetary gain to me, but if I'm wrong then the mods can ... er ... mod it. Anyway, here it is. theanticsofabrittleasthmati...

Great idea S T... anything that encourages reading, writing and self expression is ok by me... I have never ""Blogged"" or anything like that... up to now that is but could be tempted to have a go if your suggestions / idea goes ahead!

ps..so glad you enjoy/like the ""Poem"" thread ... There is no reason why AUK members could not use the POEM thread to ""Creatively Write"" down their thoughts there until something else gets set up!

This sounds like an excellent idea. I think with Blogger you can set up collaborative blogs; you create a blog and tell Blogger which members can post to it. That might be a way of opening a single blog up to a number of contributors.

EDIT:

I've just checked and yes, it can be done. Each blog can have up to 100 authors! All you need is a Google account (an account with Blogger, Blogspot, Google Mail, Google Checkout, etc) and away you go.

I'm happy to set up a blog and open it up for anyone to add to - let me know if you'd like that.

Hey,

So glad people like the idea of a joint blog.

I’ll have a go at setting one up later, PeakSteve thanks for the offer, your assistance may well be needed!

Before I set it up though we need a name! So any ideas…..?

I’ve just spent half an hour staring at a screen and managed to come up with:

Life with Asthma (rather boring)

On being Breathless

Life Breathlessly

Out of Puff (utterly naff but running out of ideas!)

I hope other people can come up with some better ones!

Hope this finds everyone well,

Just bumping this - did anything happen on the joint blog front? If not, are people still interested? I'm more than happy to create the blog and open it up to anyone who wants to contribute.

All you would need is a Google account (one with Google, YouTube, Blogger, Picasa, etc.).

Thoughts?

hi i think there is one already on the nhs webpage i think. I'll try and dig out a link for folks unless anyone else finds it first! I started a blog myself recently not really for anything in particular other than to have a place to release how i was feeling from time to time. I have mine with blogger.com! I'll do my best to find the link guys n gals! Take care and hope everyone is well. Lotsa lv kat Xx

talk.nhs.uk/blogs/asthma/de...

That the one?

yes it is thanks elephant2001!

Is tigs the kind of thing you wanted ST? Xx

The NHS Choices Asthma Blog is excellent (a number of the contributors are members here too), but you have to be invited to take part in it - so it's not really what ST was looking for.

What I was suggesting was a shared blog (on Blogger) that any Asthma UK message board member could apply to be part of, simply by sending me a PM and getting added to the authors list. Being outside the bounds of this message board would mean that bloggers could be less ""restrained"" than you need to be when you post on Camping. It would be unofficial and not connected to Asthma UK in any way, other than you needing to ask here to take part in it.

Anyone interested?

That sounds great peaksteve! I have my own blog which gives me space to vent and sound off etc but having some outlet specifically to vent the frustrations my asthma gives me would be great and im sure there are probably a few others who would feel they too could benefit from such a space!

Please let me know if it does go ahead as I would be interested in that yes! Thanks

Kat Xx

Well, the only way to see if there's enough interest in this to make it work is to give it a go!

catchingourbreath.blogspot.com

Kat, if you drop me a line and let me know the email address you use to sign into Blogger, I'll add you to the blog authors list and you'll be able to post to it directly from your Blogger dashboard.

Anyone else who'd like to join in - there can be up to 100 contributors to each blog! - is very welcome to do so.

If you don't already have a Google account, go to blogger.com and create one. Once you've done this, PM me and let me know your email address and I'll send you an email invitation to be added to the authors list. If you have any technical queries about signing up or posting to the blog once you've done so, ask them here for the benefit of all!

Peaksteve! You’re brilliant. You’ve done all the hard work for me. Thank you!

Love the name. Can I be an author please?? What do I need to do to ‘sign in’?? oooohhhh so excited!

STX

Thanks, ST!

Just PM me and let me know your email address, and I'll invite you to join the blog. If you don't currently have a Google account of some kind, you'll get the chance to create one (it only takes a moment). If/when you have a Google account, you can sign in to Blogger.com and start blogging!

Anyone else who's interested in joining in - the above applies to anyone who wants to contribute to the blog! Send me a PM and I'll invite you.

Hey, i found it quite easy to create an account and get set up on the blog. plumie

Count me in! Nice idea guys (ST/Peaksteve etc...)

Peaksteve... Will PM u in a bit with my blogger details! :)

Errrr, just clicked on the link and the blog I came up with isn't a blog on asthma.... it is something biblical!!!!

There seems to be a blog with the same name by another person from 2005.

Thanks,

I just took the one from the update in the original post!

Kate

I've now ammended ST's original post so that it has the right web address in it! ;)

Wow; we have 11 bloggers already! Anyone else like to join us?

catchingourbreath.blogspot.com

I think ST and peaksteve need a round of applause and a pat on the back for their hard work well done guys!!

hipip!!...

ST deserves most of the credit, for having the idea. I already had a Blogger account, so setting up the blog only took a few minutes.

Hopefully we'll see blog posts of different kinds appearing here shortly - creative writings, poems, diary-type entries (Plumie's just posted one of these, in fact!), and so on. I'll try and catagorise all of them so that people can quickly find the type of post that they're interested in.

Comments or opinions on the layout and content of that right-hand column are also very welcome here - most things can be fiddled with in the template.

My blog would be like that old guy on the Fast Show who paints with his wife in idyllic scenes but who descends into a raging frenzy whenever the word ""black"" is mentioned...

Black

Black

Black

BLACKBLACKBLACKBLACK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and you dont want that do you ?

If anyone here knows of someone who isn't an Asthma UK message board member but who would like to join the blog, then just drop me a PM and I'll happily add them (you'll need to provide me with an email address for them which is different to the one you joined the blog with, if you're already involved). It would be nice to get the thoughts of carers/spouses/children of those with asthma, and not just the asthmatics themselves.

Just a little bump - any new contributors are welcome to send me a PM.

catchingourbreath.blogspot.com

BUMP!

The blog's coming on very nicely indeed - catchingourbreath.blogspot.com

Send me a PM if you'd like to join in!

Extra bump!

If you'd like to blog and aren't already part of the team, drop me a PM.

Yay! We've reached the big five-oh - 50 blog posts so far.

New contributors are always welcome. PM me with your email address if you'd like to join in.
