Hi,
This particular forum is new to me so welcome to anyone taking the time to read my first entry. By way of introduction my name is Roger & I'm a past sufferer of asthma as a boy & into my teens. Thankfully I'm one of the lucky ones who 'grew' out of asthma but as you will tell have never forgotten the effects.
Over a number of years I've raised funds for Asthma UK or what was originally the National Asthma Campaign, running a couple of marathons, swimathons & cycling London to Brighton & in Iceland (by the way it would be great to hear from any of the 2000 team that went to Iceland)
But now I'm planning a life changing challenge to row the Indian Ocean commencing April 2009 with my partner Amanda Leach. For anyone new to the world of Ocean Rowing you may have heard of the Atlantic crossing made more famous in 2006 by James Cracknell & Ben Fogle. Well this is similar in terms of the boats used but substantially further in distance & more perilous. Not just a row of some 7,000km (4.350 miles) this will actually be an inaugural race, ""The World's Toughest Rowing Race"". And on what better stage to raise the awareness of asthama, the excellent work that the charity Asthma UK does & the extent to which help is needed for those that are affected by asthma.
So we're aiming to raise £52,000 for Asthma UK through our efforts & hope that you will come visit our web site at indianoceanrace2009.com, watch our progress in the preparations over the next 17 months & follow us on our journey across the waves from Geraldton, Western Australia to the island of Mauritius (if we can hit it).
