Seriously try to stop smoking. Have tried a few methods but failed. managed to stop for a month or so and then started again.

Well, a few people have recommended reading Alan Carr's 'Easy Way To Stop Smoking'

I'll let you know what happens.....

Does Paul McKenna do anything relating to stopping smoking?

As you are off work trying breaking your routine totally so you don't get those when I do X I have a fag type situations. Those can be the hardest ones. Don't be suprised if the ""oh I could just have one now"" feelings pop up from time to time, I think you have to live with those all your life but they do get easier to beat. I find telling someone when those happen helps.

Oh and good luck, one slip is not a failure accept you slipped and put it behind you and move on.

Hi

Have you been to your GP and asked for smoking patches?

Bronnie

Good on ya, Meady. Good luck with it.

Becky.

Good luck Meady!

I'll reiterate - good luck.

FYI, Allen Carr's Stop Smoking book (whatever it may actually be called!) is apparently being given away free in two parts with the Independent tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday.

I've read the book, it's very good.

I have tried patches before, but the problem with them is you are just drawing out your addiction to nicotine you're not stopping it effectively prolonging the torcher, made no difference to me. Although if it is the route you want to go, it's sooooooooooooooooooo much cheaper getting them on prescription than over the counter.

The one thing people tend to forget or get wrong is that they see smoking as a habit, well it's not, it's a drug addiction to nicotine. the only part that becomes habit is say for example the times of day you may have one.

It's a good book to read, Allen Carr was a 100 a day smoker. I think it would do a few non-smokers good to read the book, it would give them an insight to how smokers think.

Good Luck !!

I did it cold turkey two years ago after smoking for 20 yrs except when pregnant.

There will always be times you may fancy having just one, i Know i get plenty of moments like that but I wouldnt take the risk now of starting again.

Wishing you loads of luck, you will certainly feel better for it :-)

I've never smoked but I really admire those who give up, cos as you say it's a physical addiction. Those who are scathing about asthmatics smoking are way off the mark. No asthmatic in their right minds would choose to smoke, but many will have got addicted before they developed asthma, as a result of peer pressure at school etc.

Anyway Meady, two of my rellies, fairly heavy smokers over many years, managed to quit with hypnotherapy. They each went to different practitioners but the therapy was similar, i.e. aversion (e.g. deeply sniffing a full ashtray every time you get the urge!,relaxation techniques, self-hypnosis etc. It was expensive i.e. about 4 sessions, each costing £50/60, but neither has touched a cigarette since so it's saved them £000s. They both said Paul McK was good but felt they needed the personal touch

Good luck - plan what treats etc you're going to buy with all the money you save!
