Shopping and Shopping Malls

I totally dislike shopping and give shopping malls a total miss if possible. Over heated, over crowed and obnoxious. Been into my local one 4 times in a year, because I had to. In and out in 10 mins.

I much prefer the the old style High Street where, at least you can get some fresh air.

Sadly the old fashioned high street is fast disappearing, I personally hate shopping precincts too. Hereford where I live used to have a lovely old fashioned feel about it, but more and more of our local businesses are going. We lost our local family run department store called Chadds back in the summer, which had traded for 80 years.

We still have something called the Butter Market, which is a covered local market. open daily (apart from sundays). This is still run by local businesses, and feels like the Old Hereford I much love, Lottie Dog loves it to, because her favorite pet shop is there, where she is given free dog sausage. The butter market always feels welcoming and because of Lottie Dog and her cheeky ways we are always greeted by many of the store holders. The local council wants to devlope an out of town type market, linked to the old city centre, whilst Hereford like many other places needs a serious facelift and fiancial injection, a big modern out of town market is the not the way forward in my opinion. Just over a year ago 3 huge stores were rebuilt on the outskirts of the city with plenty of parking, today they remain unlet!

Malls. Romford is gradually going completely under cover. Malls are getting joined up so that there is no need for an umbrella anymore, except if you need to dash to the bus stop.

I trade at open air markets, where rents a generally affordable. Malls offer wonderful facilities, but for a limited amount of space to trade in one the rent can be three, four, five or more times the rate to be outside.

The outdoor market at Romford used to be a mecca for buyers from as far a way as Europe -it is now a pale reflection of it's former glory. But where have the traders gone?

To the mall!

Twizzle

as Bill Hicks would say, 'They're the work of the Devil!'

Lets ""big it up"" for Bill Hicks !!

Lets ""shrink it down"" for shopping malls!!
