This one time, at band camp...

I'm off to band camp on Thursday for 4 days!

Well, actually it's a choir residency in Lincoln Cathedral, but someone else started with the 'band camp' thing and let's face it, still pretty geeky, if fun. ;)

Looking forward to it, but also worried as the journey there and back will be a nightmare, plus the cathedral is at the top of a hill and I will be staying at the bottom of it and my lungs are already not very happy. Crossing my fingers I make it all the way through and actually manage to do some singing!

Sounds fun. That hill (actually named Steep Hill - and that's no exaggeration!) is very very steep - makes a mockery of the 'Lincolnshire is completely flat' idea. There is however a bus that goes up the pedestrian area through the city and up to the castle & cathedral - might be a good idea if you looked into this?

Oh, and if things do go wrong and you end up going to the Costa, make sure you get the right side of the road - it's opposite the prison. :D

Hmm, think I remember it now - sang at Lincoln once before but we didn't go down the hill as no time. Thanks for the tip about the buses, think I will need to look into that as otherwise no singing will actually happen. Maybe some of my lazier fellow singers will be glad of the excuse and join me!

Will also remember about the prison - one side of the road sexy arrow-pattern jumpsuits, the other side lovely sexy Costa gowns - what a fashion parade! Definitely hoping that does not happen as so far have avoided A&E somehow...

Hope u have a really nice time. Don't overdo it! xx

Well, I made it :)

There and back, not a great train journey either way but I didn't end up in Costa (or prison lol), managed to avoid having to walk up the steep hill and while my lungs are definitely more unhappy than before I went I knew that would happen with all the stuff I had to do. Saw friends, freaked out said friends with how slowly I walked (I collected people who offered to carry stuff for me!) but good time.

Though it would have been better if they hadn't started waving incense around in one service - aaarrghh. Cough cough cough all the way through one of my favourite pieces grrr. Do not wave that stuff around singers, especially singers with annoying lungs...

Glad it went well for you and up the hill.

The incense sets me off,not so long a go at a family funeral ,good job

was near to the door to escape if needed xxxx

love singing in churches .my family carnt believe how i can reach the high notes

and my mother in law shocked first time she heard mr sing.

when im singing hymns I always go high when needed and add the choir bits to spruce them up .

My voice tends to get heard a lot as most people go quiet when the songs go high and I belt them out as not shy xxx

Yeah, I've noticed most people in the congregation don't actually sing hymns. I like to belt them out too when not in the choir (when in it am a bit more sedate as have less voice left from singing everything else).

Singing is good lung therapy for me, up to a point. This weekend may well have exceeded that point...
