My little girl has bad asthma and takes Ventolin, Serotide and Montelukast. She also has Pred about once a month for chest infections and asthma flare ups. She eats for England and is constantly crying for food, more so if on Pred. Does anyone else notice a change in their childs appetite and subsequent weight when they're on a lot of meds? My daughter is on the 98th centile for her weight and has now got a very round face. Is this the drugs? She is only 16mths old.

Preds can sometimes make a children hungry. And a lot of meds can led to them being rounder. But once sh egets really active you might notice that the wieght starts dropping off

my little guy is 26 mths old and when he is on preds he doesnt stop eating he has them about once maybe twice a month for chest infections. He even gets up 2 r 3 times in the night telling me he is hungry

My Son on same meds plus bricanyl. He goes off his food and becomes really skinny, but he had a fat face from being on steroids for nearly a year. He looks so different now, He's been off steroids since November, longest time ever.

My son is 12 and we have noticed that he has suddenly started to put on weight. He is on seretide 125 and montelukast and over christmas period had 2 lots of oral steriods back to back and 2 doses of antibiotics....... He gets stressed about the weight gain and I put some of it down to his age....puppy fat and all that...but I do worry as the extra weight is not good for his asthma....its like a vicious circle...we have brought him a trampoline to get more exercise but with all the bad weather he hasn't been able to get on it....dont know if there is any answer really !!

Hi my 12 year old has put weight on too round his tummy but he only has very mild asthma. His voice broke before he was 11 and is very hormonal. My Son does lots of activities but not so much in the winter. Swimming is great for some asthmatics but some people react to the chlorine. My Son does life saving a loves it. I'm hoping its his hormonal changes and will keep an eye on the situation in the summer. My Husband has crohns disease and my Son has very similar problems so we have been told to make sure he keeps some extra weight in case he becomes ill. Couldn't do that with my severely asthmatic Son, he is such a twiglet!!

Hi, i do know that with Prednisilone it does give you the effect of being swollen in your face, my son also use alot of it and now they have put him on a daily dose as he is just not managing without it.

I cant say if he eats more on prednisilone as he is always eating and always hungry, but he is also on Ventolin, Symbicort, motelukast and ceterizine.

There is just one question i do have does anybody experience mood swings on Prednisilone as this is the only medication that has been changed and he has been taking it for 4 weeks now and the moods he is going through is unbelievable. The 1 minute he is a happy go lucky guy the next he just cries for no reason you can just look at him in a funny way and he wil cry it is driving us crazy as you just dont know what to expect next crying, laughing or just pure frustration.

Hi my Son used to get suicidal on steroids when he was only 6, it was awful. The very thing that was trying to save his life was messing him up emotionally. He has mild autism too but since we have had treatment to help him,he has calmed down so much and this has helped his asthma too. He's a normal lively boy but emotions mess his asthma up.He still gets very low on steroids but handles the situation so much better now.
