I'm 14 weeks pregnant and the minute, great news cos i love children so much. this will be my second baby and all semms well. i'm not asthma sufferer myself but i'm terrified of bringing a new life into the world in case he or she has asthma as i have recently lost my gorgeous 2 year old son to a severe asthma attack. i'm so scared as there seems there's so much of it about and hope i can be strong enough to deal with any breathing difficulties it may have.
My son wasn't overly poorly but every couple of weeks it was down to the doctors as he' been triggered by a cold. never really taken seriously by the doctors or looked into further. i've come on here to have a nose and i'm so touched by the support you all give each other and so wish i knew about this website months ago. but what happened to my son was a tragedy but is in no way the norm.
But please remember parents know their children best and so if your worried then there's something wrong and get it looked into. we need to breathe to stay alive so any breathing complaints should be investigated, i know that some medical staff don't tke asthma seriously but it obviously can be very serious.
I am so, so sorry for what happened to your son and I cannot begin to imagine how terrible that has been for you to deal with.
I hope your pregnancy goes well and that your baby is born safely and well. Ask any questions you want of us here, usually there will have been someone in the same boat who can share experiences, offer advice or even just empathy so that you know you're not alone.
I will just mention that, by their very nature, these boards tend to attract people who are at the more severe end of the asthma spectrum, so please don't be alarmd by what you might read here. 90-95% of asthma can be controlled using conventional medication, such that sufferers will experience a normal quality of life.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. It's easier said but please try not to worry yourself too much about what could be as this will not do you or the baby any good.

Just wanted to say that I was touched by your message, I suppose its hard to know what to say and sometimes words are not enough.
It reminded me a bit about what my mum said when I v nearly died from a severe attack and my heart goes out to you, even though I was an adult at the time but i guess a loss is hard at any age but a baby is worse.

I just wanted to echo what the others have said. I'm so sorry that you have gone through the pain of losing a child.
There is a good chance that your second child will not have asthma, and even if they do, as Cathbear has said, severe asthma is very rare. I hope everything goes well for you.

I just wanted to say how very sorry I am to hear of your very sad loss, my heart goes out to you.... I hope everything turns out well for you, and just to say that I have a son and a daughter, my son has servere chronic allergic asthma and is very hard to control, but on the other hand I have a daughter who is the picture of health and who does not have any signs of asthma at all.

Hi gbrown , I just want to say how very sorry I am to read about the loss of your son. I have 2 daughters one with severe difficult to control asthma and one who was very very ill at birth and for the first 6 months of her life, but is now a fairly healthy 5 year old. I too lost a child due to a lung problem(not asthma).I know what you are going through . Please pm me if you ever want to chat. Hi there like the others I too have been touched by your post, am really sorry about the loss of your son from asthma. Its totally understandable that you are scared about the health of your new baby. Congratulations on the new baby when he/she are born there are many people whom you can get support from in regards to your concerns such as your health visitor and GP. Good luck with the pregnancy.
Congratulations on your pregnancy and i hope that both you and your baby are well. I have 5 children, 3 boys and 2 girls. One daughter has brittle asthma and is in and out of hospital regularly and the other has been to our G.P. twice in her 12 years. I have 2 sons that get wheezy with a cold and a third who has never even had a cold !
