Just wondered if any of your children have a medic alert bracelet for their Asthma?

Is it necessary do you think?

Also do you claim DLA for them? Id not even thought about it til someone mentioned it this week!

Hi

My daughter hasn't got a bracelet but there is a company called Mediband (mediband.co.uk) who make them. They also do sillicone ones in different sizes.

Like you it has also been suggested to me about DLA, but having read the forums it is an uphill struggle getting DLA for asthma. If you decide to go that route Welfare Rights was suggested to me as they know how to fill in the forms.

Good luck

yes you should get one, i have a necklace one with all my conditions on.

you should only claim for your child of they medically need caring for because they cant do things them themselves which is known as the care component or if they really strugge to walk or are in a wheelchair ottherwise they will just turn it down as it really hard to get.

i have severe asthma along with other mutiple long term conditions and disabilties which i am regsitered as disabled, so i cant do some things myself and have great difficulty walking yet i have been turned down twice and just had to reapply, it is a long hard, stressful and would only tell people to apply if they really struggle and needs help and that it would help with things

I have a medic alert bracelet from the medic alert foundation, although they're more expensive than the others I particularly like they they are internationally recognised and all your details can be obtained by a quick phonecall.

To apply for DLA for children it's slightly different to adults, you have to be able to prove that your child needs more care than another child of their age. The mobility componant also takes into account wether a child would need to take medication or have supervision whilst outdoors. However it is, as others have highlighted quite difficult to get. I would defintaely recommend, if you do decide to apply for it, to get as much evidence to send with the form as possible - doctors letters, maybe letters from school etc. Also, get somebody to help you with the form - as how things are worded can make a big difference.

Hope that helps

There are some nice sports bands by Medic Alert designed for children, and a couple designed by children too!

You may be able to get a grant if you are on a very low income to become a member of Medic alert.

Hi Emily

I got a bracelet for my son from icejems.co.uk I got him a football strap which he loves but they have plenty of designs to choose from, I thought it would be useful when he is at friends or at a party.
