hi my son is 2 and half, he first had an attack about 5 months ago, i thought he had a chest infection and i took him to my gp, he said he was having an asthma attack, i said he didnt have asthma but he insisted he did and put him straight on nebs. we was sent home and within the hour we was in hospital on more nebs and had to stay over night.

since then he has been in four times, seemd to be every 3 to 4 weeks, although over xmas we seemed to manage it with upping the dose of brown and blue inhalers. this weekend he got a cough and straight away i was on edge.

i took him to hospital knowing he needed nebs, in a&e they gave him nebs and preds and said he had a chest infection and was sending us home, i new things werent quite right but picked up the antibiotics from the pharmacy upstairs, which was 10 mins and he already was wheezing again so i took him back so more nebs, thye was gonna send me home again but i said no, so we went to the ward.

they was saying it was a chest infection and said he wasnt wheezing and so didnt need nebs, i knew he did and was really struggling to breathe, but because i am new to this i didnt know wat to do.

a nurse said to me he sounds like he needs nebs i explianed the docs said he didnt, she wasnt happy either.

the doc came back and listen to him and was still saying he is fine, i wanted to cry, but the nurse stood up to him and got a senior consultant who straight away insisted he have nebs.

we eneded up staying overnight as he went downhill very fast and had back to back nebs then hourly over night. oh and he doesnt have an infection.

i am now thinking of getting him checked for allergies.

we came home after 30 hours and even though he is still breathless we are manging it with the inhalers. sorry to have gone on..

I just want to race down and give you a big hug after that post. Not got much in the way of an answer but just wanted to tell you I cared.

Well done for sticking to your guns. All patients are entitled to a second opinion and ask for it to be a paediatric dr when it's a child. tho a pity at the stress it caused you. I'm pleased the nurse sought the consultant for you hope it reinforces you where right to question the dr. Hope you son is on the mend.... Gussypoo
