Hi Paul, I had an air purifier for about a year (in my bedroom) and I'm afraid I never noticed any difference. But everyone is different, and it might be worth a try for your son.

Re. salt mines - the director of AUK did a blog on the subject of caves on 11 Aug 2010 and there were some interesting comments. If you click on Blog at the bottom of this page, and then scroll down the page to 'older blogs' you will find it. Presumably there will be info on the internet as well (I havent checked).

Edit. Blog was entitled 'Anyone been to the asthma-friendly caves of Turkey'.

i've been to a salt cave once

a few years ago i looked round a salt cave system as part of my holiday. the guide told us about how people would go live there for periods of time to help with breathing problems.

I did find it easier to breathe in the cave than usual for me.

not completely sure there were any after effects

so a trip might help, anything is worth a try!

hope you and your son arew doing ok x

I have had Asthma for many years & of course everyone is different but I do think that deep   breathing exercises  can help.  I am  fortunate  that I  live within  I mile of the seaside and  taking  deep breaths as I  walk  along  seems to help. To get some  fresh air in our lungs and being conscious  of how we  are breathing   I  am  sure must be helpful.

Obviously, this post is too old now, but in case somebody decides to read it again - I have experience with the "salt caves". In my town we have this health centre where they provide salt rooms (salt walls, salt directly from those caves etc.). I did a course of 10 40-minute sessions (just sit there for 40 minutes and breath in the salt) over the time spans of a month and apart from a cold that was full-rage before and completely-gone after the session, I didn't see any effect on my asthma. I hear it helps little children a lot and every time I (24) went to the health centre the girls there were really hopeful in asking if I was doing any better. Unfortunately - no. I don't know if this ever helped anyone but objectively speaking my doctor agrees it shouldn't have any effect on the asthma whatsoever. However, it does help with stress. So it's still a win if you try it and it doesn't work.
