Changing the dose of Prednisolone

Can anyone tell me why my son is decreasing his steroids from 8 x 5mg daily to 5 x 5mg everyday for a week then 3 x 5mg for a week then 2 x 5mg everyday for a week then back up to 4 x 5mg every other day.... I dont know where I am, I have to write everything down..... I have also found that he is less well on the day that he doesnt have any steroids... Does this benefit him in anyway, I thought it would just be easier if he dropped one every week at least we would know where we were...

Sorry about the whinge but with all the other medication as well it takes a good memory to hold it all in...
