New to Asthma

Hi there.

My 2 year old has been diagnosed with Asthma today. I have never suffered myself and although my brother had childhood asthma I dont remember much about it.

My son has Ventolin and I have just given him his first dose and he was really good and did exactly as he was told.

He's had a cough at night for over 6 months and has a cold at the moment making it much worse.

I'm feeling a little bit lost at the moment.

Sorry hope this makes sence.

Welcome, Maddy.

The overwhelmed/lost feeling is quite common so don't worry.

Take a good look around the site - there are lots of materials about asthma on here under the section ""All About Asthma"" - and feel free to ask any questions you want on here, no matter how silly you think they might be.

Sounds like you've already crossed one hurdle - getting your little one to take the meds - well done!

I know how you feel

Hi Maddy,

I'm far from an expert but just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone. I have a 13 month old who we've been struggling with for 9 months. It's a very long story which I won't bore you with but I really know that lost feeling. We've tried so many different things now to try and help Holly and each time we think we have found something that works it all seems to start again.

For me the best sources of information have been this site, other people on here who have more experience that I do and the Asthma Nurse. I've called them and emailed them a few times and have always received really good advice.

I definitely can't say things are fantastic for us yet but I do gradually think we are getting a better understanding of what we're dealing with and more importantly how to deal with it.

Hope things settle for you soon

Kind regards

Lianne
