on the ohe hand i lost weight steadilyover som months and ended up in hospital with astrangulated hernia . no explanationof that at all but clothes are hopeless all so much too big and cannot go to get replacements. am i going to regain that weight again . I do hope not . but----- so having to take in all my jeans and trousers -- held up with belt at prsnt. gave all my oldes ones to charity shop before this happened . be aware tha when gut is handled then it tends to stick together . i ended up ack in hospital again with adhesions and spent a lot of days on nil by mouth until it leared naturally . Unwanted result was tha lost mobility and have to walk again a little further each day to regain muscle . at 85 i have lost lots of muscle anyway as one does at that age so life is difficult .

good luck .

Great news that your op was successful and that you can breathe better and a bonus to get rid of the belly fat x

Hi, were you taking proton pump inhibitors prior to your op? By that I mean, for example Omeprazole, for acid reflux. Apparently they make you put on weight. I found out a few months ago I have a 7cm hiatus hernia for which they are going to repair sometime soon by keyhole surgery. I really hope I can stop taking PHPs when it’s been repaired. I used to be size 12 but put on a lot of weight in the last three years, basically ever since I had been taking PHPs on a long term basis. Anyway I’m glad you’re feeling great and your breathing has improved. Best wishes, Jan.

They say i have copd but i dont think i have as my breathing titenes was caused by my h iatus hernia ad soon as they done op my breathing was normal like it was 10 years ago b for they said i had copd. The hernia made my stomach look realy big after the op few months down line it all went like i have same body like i did in my 30s i gogym etc but hernia restricted every thing now i feal and look great no i never had acid reflux ps ihave never smoked did get ashma in my early 20s dident effect out i done though as am sporty person

From what you say I’m hopeful for myself as my stomach has got big (not saggy or wobbly…but round and almost rock hard, and I’ve alway had quite a trim waist). It certainly doesn’t sound like you’ve got COPD but a bit worrying that they can misdiagnose you. I assume they diagnosed you on the results of a spirometry test? I definitely have COPD but I hope my breathing will improve when I’ve had the hernia op.

yes spirometey test was bordeline copd and normal i can go joging and not get tite chested but when i had hernia it was very hard to get air in while jogging the simple test to see if your hiatus hernia is efecting your lungs bend over and if your breathing is bloked its b cause part you stomach is in chest cavity efecting your lungs

I’ve already been told a large part of my stomach is above the diaphragm and sometimes I have difficulty swallowing as a result. It’s great that you are now so fit..wishing you all the best.
