My old boy makes my heart full of happiness... Recently has been sneezing lots with a very runny nose ... he's been very tired more than normal ... We had another trip to Mr Vet to confirm my suspicion... Stan has a tumour in his nasal passages and we have decided that since he will 15 next birthday we won't be putting him through any treatment...His quality of life is more important and he will let us know when he's had enough.. but that's not right now we will know when he knows πŸ’œπŸ’œ

Bless him Bb9, such a beautiful boy. My sister said goodbye to her black lab a few months ago. She was guided by him and knew when to let him go. Thinking of you. πŸ’œβ€οΈπŸ’œ

You are so right... his quality of life is much more important. He looks so happy and loved!! Dogs have their way of communicating to us their wants and needs including their need to go to heaven. This happened to me with my lab... Turner... he let me know thru his eyes that it was time to venture on!! I picture him with my other two labs ... Tina and Gus fetching ball and being a family in heaven. You are such caring and loving dog mom.... Bless you!

What a wonderful picture I have of your doggos playing ball ...They definitely show us the way with their eyes ..

I know he's not ready to go just yet but when he is .. we will know for sure πŸ’œπŸ’œ

So sorry to hear about Stan. I have always thought how much he looks and acts like my Toby. Four weeks ago he was diagnosed with a malignant tumour up his nostril It came to light following a some sneezing which led to some bad nosebleeds. I have gone through some emotional blackmail from our vet who wants me to visit the oncologist. Toby is not a fan of the car or the vet. In fact the stress of these trips was actually causing these nosebleeds. So no more vets, yet.

He is still loving life and walks and treats and the sofa and that is what counts. X

Blackbird9 profile image
Blackbird9 in reply to hillclimber1

I'm so very sorry to hear that about Toby it's a horrible situation to be in ..They will give it their best shot at the vets to get you to spend...

Mines knows me too well and won't argue defeat over life choices...

Quality of life is so much better than quantity...If I could stretch another lifetime from Stan I would ...keep me posted on Toby much love to you both πŸ’œ

I’m so sorry to hear about your gorgeous boy’s problems. I think you’ve done the right thing in deciding not to put him through surgery. One of my friends has golden retrievers, and one of them had a tumour in her nose. She was young so they decided to go for the surgery, but even with age on her side, she didn’t survive.

Blackbird, my gal Ms Shelly will be on hand to walk beside your boy when the time comes. She lost a front digit to sarcoma nearly two years ago and is having a possible recurrence in that leg…

Like you, I will give her the best days. They share that exuberance for living and tell us when they need their rest. So begins the long goodbye though it isn’t yet. I hope Stan, the man, doesn’t mind the younger gels…

Did you know that when people lie in the snow to make angels, that dogs in the snow make the shape of a heart? My snow queen taught me that.

Bless you all,

πŸ•Š

I was thinking of your gorgeous boy just this week and how he was. He looks happy and still enjoying his walks no doubt. My old boy with cancer was tired but then he was 15 too. He loved his food and walks and fuss (unless pouring with rain when he would look out the open door and retreat to his bed) up until the day before he died. You and Stan will know the time and you will always remember that you were blessed to have each other. In the meantime you have many, many more happy days and beautiful walks together. Thinking of you. Ceri

Poor Stan. Bless him. We had a dog that had a nasal tumour. We did the same as the vet said the treatment would be too invasive. Prepare yourself for lots of blood I think this happened on sneezing. You might be lucky and Stan won’t get the blood loss. Sending you and your family and of course Stan - gentle hugs. πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—

I really agree with your reasoning. Ive had three labs and three Goldens over the years and I have always been guided by them. They’ve gone to sleep in my arms and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I still miss them all so much but it’s always been a comfort to me that the decision was made by them. Enjoy your beautiful dog and take comfort that he can enjoy his last days with you.

Oh Bb, I’m so very sorry to read your post but I’m glad to hear of your compassionate decision not to put Stan through any treatment. As you say, quality of life is key and it’s plain to see from the pure love in his eyes as he looks at you, that he’s had and continues to have, the most wonderful life with you. As others have already expressed, I know the pain you’re going through only too well. Sadly, there’s nothing I can do to relieve that, other than to offer my heartfelt support to you. Thinking of you both, TC x
