Many years ago we went through Newcastle to go to Seahouses on a school trip and we stayed at a b and b there.

One evening we had been promised fish and chips as a treat but they never happened as my father who was the senior teacher on the trip had said it was too late and a girl had cried saying how she liked the teacher who was going to have got us the chips but not my father!

My sister in law had said how the teacher who was going to have got us the chips who was a mother herself had wanted to keep everyone happy as she knows herself as she is a mother to a very pampered cat and makes sure Baby is happy by giving her treats!

Your father sounds like the original purple meanie, if you don't mind me saying so. Everybody knows that fish and chips would enhance the educational experience. I went to Seahouses briefly. It was raining. 🐟🐟🐟 (This useless emoji doesn't have a picture of a chip 🙁.) xxx

I would have offered to have rearranged the fish and chips for another day if I had been the senior teacher to take the sting out of the disappointment for the children.

Seahouses is a fishing village isn't it?

Once my father said how our black and white cats life had caused a nuisance and someone else had said to me your fathers life is a nuisance and my sister in law had said how my father was his own worst enemy and how with his behaviour he was stupid to himself more than anyone else!

There was the incident with the Chinese when we had eaten a full lunch that lunchtime and my father had wanted a Chinese for dinner and I had said why don't we rearrange the Chinese for the Saturday to go to the all you can eat place and he could have what he wanted and so could everyone else and I got shouted at!

That evening my father had driven a short distance up the road to get himself fish and chips which I thought was silly and childish!

There was an incident back in 1998 when there was a scene when I wouldn't give him his own way as I was staying at a friends for a child's christening not with him and he was jealous because I was the only one to get asked to be a godparent from someone outside the family as well and I never did either but had offered an alternative but that wasn't right!

One of my friends said to me with people like that don't give them alternatives and sod them!

You have had a lot to deal with- well done you for still being undefeated by it all. xxx

I'm sure it will all be fine!

Here's another mean incident that happened when I was 9 and we had gone on holiday to Scarborough and my father had asked me what would we like to do one day and I had said about the watersplash world place on the seafront and a trip to the rock factory and I got told no to those and I had become ever so upset and the excuse was that it would be too cold to have gone to the outdoor swimming place and with the rock factory it was halfway home!

I would have said about stopping at the rock factory on the way home and perhaps arrange a couple of hours at the watersplash world as there was other ways that could have been dealt with.

If they had said that to me then my reaction would have been different!

With the mean incidents just to explain it's not the not having got the things in themselves that upset me no it was being unfair and unkind over them that did!

What a pity, the fish and chips we had at Seahouses while on holiday were very good.

They do Haggis as well in the chip shops up there.

Didn't know that but probably wouldn't have been tempted.

Thank you, but the camera did all the work. It takes 3 photos at once in night mode, making busy little whirring noises as it does so. Then it somehow amalgamates them, removing camera shake as it does so. I just point it and press the trigger; it's rather like being back using my mum's box camera. 😉😉😉 xxx

I need one of those cameras ! What make is it Alberta ? xx

Alberta56 profile image
Alberta56 in reply to Thepainterswife

It's a Canon Eos 100D. It's a SLR, so you can buy lots of interchangeable lens for it. I sometimes wonder if I would have been better off with a smaller lighter bridge camera, since I can't manage lugging anything heavy around these days. xxx

A super photograph Alberta. We crossed the Tyne by another bridge when our sat nav insisted on taking us through the centre of Newcastle en route to Northumberland several years ago. Our view wasn't so picturesque.

Thank you. That riverside area has been made into a lovely place for people to stroll about, particularly when it's not raining. xxx

Alberta56 profile image

My hands are no longer steady, I'm afraid. The camera set to night setting eliminates camera shake, which means you no longer have to lug a tripod about and guess how many seconds to leave the shutter open. xxx

Love it, so much going on and the bridge looks majestic. There’s a mystical quality to it too. You say the camera did all the work but I say “pah!”, you captured and framed the picture. A tremendous sight!

just catching up as not sleeping ! Remember the bridge, and angel of north from when we went up there on motorbike. Also had excellent fish and chips in Seahouses. On another occasion walked short way along Hadrian’s wall, and then went to remains of Roman village. Thanks for lovely photos, Jean x

Alberta56 profile image

We went to Hadrian's Wall too, but the weather was most disappointing. Weather to put the camera away and buy a post card. xxxx
