To set your mind at rest, here is a summary of Salamanders:

Although some salamanders have a tendency to inflict a bite if picked up, they are not poisonous. Like many other amphibians, however, they do secrete a toxic substance from the skin glands that can be irritating even to humans, especially if it should come in contact with the mucous membranes.

Your post lead me to read about the Salamander.

Some species can regenerate limbs which is of great interest to the medical scientists, with a view to regeneration of human limbs.

Thank u for bringing them to my attention. Bernardine 🤗🤗

Thanks, interesting and informative, do they glow in dark? Jean

Don`t think they glow otherwise I would not need a torch. The yellow is very bright so even at twilight easy to spot. Unfortunately they move so slowly most of them end up being squashed on the road.

Thanks, hope you see more before get squashed on road, horrible!

Thankfully our "road" is little more than a track, only servicing 5 houses and we almost the only people around in the evenings. Daytime is another story. This morning I quickly picked up one of our dogs, not on a lead, just before 5 trial bikes appeared coming toward us.

That’s bad. I live by infant and junior school, wasn’t planned when bought my house, parking big problem. In afternoon cars start arriving 45+ minutes early, sit with engines running either for heat or air conditioning. It’s practically impossible to get home at school time, if need to go out in morning have to park car on road early. School refused suggestions by local council to improve situation. Jean

This morning`s walk was over an hour ago and wife still struggling to breathe properly due to exhaust fumes from 5 bikes. Hopefully she will be OK for table tennis before lunch.

We also live next to a school! It was here when we bought the house, 38 years ago but most children were walked to school then. Now the situation mirrors yours.

What a lovely little animal! He has that black and yellow colouring that says - Don't eat me!

I`m not even remotely tempted to try.

Cool salamander! Thanks for sharing! Definitely has that 'don't touch me' look.

Fire salamander looks lovely and think it could be confused with a snake in the early evening, would give me a scare as I am really jumpy , are there many where you live?

I`ve only seen 2, both on same evening after rain. Weather here has been very dry since April/May and there is no running water nearby, that I know about, only the ditches at the side of the lane which do get full when we have heavy rain. I`ll keep my eyes out for anything else of interest.
